Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC) is a 100-bed freestanding psychiatric hospital located near the beautiful resort area of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a short 10-minute drive to the ocean front. VBPC offers acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for adults 18 years and older. The hospital is accessible 24 hours a day for admissions, and includes mental health assessments and an excellent referral network. Treatment programs and specialty services at VBPC include substance abuse, dual diagnosis and partial hospitalization. Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center currently has a 11pm-7am Mental Health Counselor position open. Candidates must be available to work weekends and holidays.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

  • Serves as an active member of the clinical staff.
  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients.
  • Assists in maintenance of a safe, clean therapeutic environment.
  • Assures patient participation in program activities.
  • Assists in maintenance of patient health and safety.
  • Performs technical/patient care duties.
  • Interacts with patients, patient families, clinical team and community resources establishing relationships.

Qualifications

The following are the job requirements for the 11pm-7am Mental Health Counselor position:

  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology, Human Services, Sociology, Counseling or in a related behavioral science field.
  • Associates degree in Psychology, Human Services, Sociology, Counseling or in a related behavioral science field; one year of direct care experience working with adult psychiatric or chemical dependency clients.
  • RNA/LPN or High School/GED Diploma; three years of direct care experience working with adult psychiatric or chemical dependency clients.
