Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

Additional Department Summary: The Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral position. This position is available to individuals with research interests and expertise in modeling and data analyses of hydrologic processes.

Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. The College and/or the Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.

This Post-Doc position will be expected to conduct research in the general area of hydrology under the supervision of Dr. Mukesh Kumar. The candidate will work on the evaluation and development of the next-generation (eco)hydrologic models, and produce novel scientific insights regarding hydrologic responses and their controls during climate extremes.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in terminal degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, hydrology, ecology, geosciences, computer science, applied mathematics, data analytics, or related fields at the start date.

Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.

Skills and Knowledge: Modeling and Data analytics experiences are required for developing simulation codes and for conducting data analysis. The candidate should have: a) Superlative ability to articulate research objectives and hypotheses, and ability to work as part of a team. b) Excellent analytical ability and in-depth experience with at least one programming language.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with numerical modeling and/or data analytics with big data. Broad knowledge of hydrology.
