Position description

Temporary instructor is needed to teach MCN 264A - Principles of Adult Education. The course is offered as part of the Master of Advanced Study in Maternal and Child Nutrition and focuses on education of adult learners in the context of maternal and child nutrition. The course is designed to meet the counseling and communication didactic requirement set by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners for those aspiring to be credentialed as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Appointment Dates

Winter Quarter 2025: January 3 - March 21

Spring Quarter 2025: March 27 - June 12

Reappointment is possible upon demonstrated competence and based on established criteria.

Teach one or more quarters of MCN 264A.

General Information

The Davis campus, third oldest in the ten-campus University of California system, offers a full range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional

programs. The city of Davis is a progressive university town of 65,622 located in the Sacramento Valley, 72 miles northeast of San Francisco and 15

miles west of Sacramento, California's capital.

Commensurate with experience and course assignment.

Criteria for appointment will be evidence of teaching excellence (or potential for excellence for first time, relatively inexperienced candidates) in topics related to nutrition in pregnancy, infancy, and childhood, and breastfeeding support in terms of a) rigorous and intellectually challenging course content, and tb) he ability to present that material effectively, stimulating interest in, and critical thought regarding, the subject matter.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Masters Degree in Nutrition, Health Education, Education, Nursing or equivalent discipline

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

Currently in good standing as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with at least 5 years of professional practice as an IBCLC

PhD is preferred

Evidence of teaching excellence or potential for excellence.

A developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in

a) providing lactation education, counseling and support to breastfeeding families

b) mentoring and education of adult learners in the field of lactation consulting.
