Job Summary

This position is part of the MCC Media Relations/Communications team. It is responsible for strategically managing the college's official media channels (LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Instagram), including the development of content (messaging, graphics, video etc.), monitoring and reporting. This position also researches, writes and proofreads news releases, articles, features, profiles, scripts etc. highlighting the college, its faculty, staff and students.

Additional Information

Applicants must submit three (3) writing samples demonstrating ability to prepare a variety of communications such as news releases, feature stories, scripts and social media content.

Essential Functions

40% Writing -- Research, draft, edit and proofread news releases, articles, features, profiles, scripts materials for internal and external audiences, ensuring content is compelling and supports the college brand
40% Social Media --
* Plan social media outreach in collaboration with MCC Marketing and Communication teams, scheduling and monitoring posts using Hootsuite
* Prepare clear, concise and compelling social media content (posts, graphics, photo and video), attending/covering campus events and activities, some of which may occur outside of regular business hours
* Report on impact/results
* Provide timely responses to questions and comments received via the college's social channels
* Guide and support campus colleagues operating unofficial social channels to protect the college and its brand
* Coordinate social media advertising and reporting in collaboration with MCC Marketing
* Monitoring and sharing appropriate social mentions
10% Provide basic photography, video and graphic design skills supporting PR, marketing and social media needs
5% Monitor media mentions, archiving appropriate stories on the college's website; requires understanding of media monitoring tools and analytics, and ability to use Drupal
5% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in public relations, marketing, journalism, English, business, communications or related field and two years of full-time equivalent professional journey-level experience in developing and implementing public relations, social media and marketing activities, projects and campaigns
OR
Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution and four years of full-time equivalent professional journey-level experience in developing and implementing public relations, social media and marketing activities, projects and campaigns
OR
High School Diploma/GED and six years of full-time equivalent professional journey-level experience in developing and implementing public relations, social media and marketing activities, projects and campaigns

Desired Qualifications

A. Two years of experience using social media tactics and strategies, including the use of scheduling, listening and analyzing tools, in a professional communications, public relations or marketing environment
B. Three years of experience working directly in public relations or communications writing news releases, articles and speeches
C. Professional experience overseeing a successful communications, public relations or social media project or campaign
D. Communicates effectively, including use of correct grammar and punctuation, demonstrated in cover letter, resume and writing samples
E. Working knowledge of Associated Press writing style, demonstrated in writing samples
F. Effective project management skills, ability to manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously
G. Experience using Hootsuite or other social media monitoring/scheduling tools

Special Working Conditions

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: https://district.maricopa.edu/regulations/admin-regs/section-4/4-14

Required to travel to and attend events off campus, occasionally outside of normal business hours

Working knowledge of AP writing style

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body; Sedentary work requiring extensive computer time
