Position Summary

This is a responsible technical position in the Infectious Diseases Laboratory (IDL) in the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. This position requires computer database expertise with knowledge of Access, Word, and other various computer-based applications. Extensive laboratory experience and excellent organizational skills are essential. Primary duties will include the following: maintenance of laboratory submission entries into a computer database (30%), preparation of weekly income deposits (5%), monthly billing, daily client communication and assistance (5%) and daily processing of samples and performing the variety of tests run by IDL (60%). The selected candidate will be a creative and devoted experimentalist and diagnostician, and will collaborate with other members of the team to run diagnostic assays. The candidate is expected to provide mentorship to peers in methodologies for mastered assays. Through individual and team contributions the candidate will help establish their team's success in providing state of the art diagnostics to the patients and communities we serve.

Duties/Responsibilities

In addition to office responsibilities, sample processing and running diagnostic assays will be performed routinely. These laboratory duties will include analyzing the data obtained from PCR-based assays as well as immunologic-based assays that detect antigen and/or antibodies to specific disease causing organisms. A working knowledge of the diagnostic assays and the respective positive and negative controls is imperative for accurate interpretation of results, data collection, analysis and the incorporation of the combined evaluated material into technical reports that can be conveyed to clients. This position involves the skill to design and/or develop new and/or improved methods that enhance the lab's capability to successfully and accurately detect disease causing organisms that are of major concern to our clients.

Duties/Responsibilities

Management of laboratory submissions and computer database (VetView). This is a diagnostic service laboratory that receives national and international samples. It is imperative that samples are labeled accurately, efficiently with attention to detail. Each sample is given an identifying submission number that is carefully entered into a computer database. This database maintains client information, animal identification, sample type, test requested and results, along with financial management of each account.

Duties/Responsibilities

Account management including deposits, billing, federal permits and Royalty payments. VetView is used to manage each client's account. This requires daily entering of payments with submissions and/or for invoices. Once a week, deposits need to be prepared using the VetView system, checks are copied, verified and sent to the appropriate University personnel for deposit into IDL's account. Test counts are also maintained via the VetView system.

Duties/Responsibilities

Client communications and assistance and other duties as assigned. Clients, both national and international call daily with questions regarding IDL's services. It is essential that IDL has a responsible and knowledgeable person to communicate with and assist clients.
