This Senior Manager position will lead CAISO project development and execution efforts for AES Clean Energy's Solar and Standalone Storage efforts. The person will lead and handle project development efforts for the late-stage projects in the CAISO Region and will lead a team of supporting developers on earlier stage projects. Key activities include ensuring late-stage projects successfully reach construction commencement, and for early-stage projects, identifying optimal locations for solar and standalone storage, land acquisition, project permitting, coordinating site studies and diligence, managing the interconnection process, and handling project development budgets.

This position will reside within AES Clean Energy's CAISO project development team. The position can be remote based or utilization of our various office locations including Louisville, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; San Francisco, CA or San Diego, CA.The role requires the ability to handle multiple project portfolios, attention to detail and travel as needed.The successful candidate will work on a cross functional team with new product development, origination, commercial, legal, finance, engineering, construction, and outside consultants, landowners, customers, project stakeholders and utility companies.The position requires project management knowledge and expertise with solar and storage technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on team leader and project developer.
  • Personally develop a pipeline of late-stage solar and standalone storage projects in the CAISO market.
  • Lead a growing team of project developers.
  • Lead and manage all aspects of project development from site origination or acquisition through to construction commencement.
  • Develop and manage project development schedules and budgets.
  • Lead project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage contract obligations in key project documents.
  • Facilitate Project Discretionary Permitting including permit strategy, tracking permit efforts, working with local AHJs, presenting at permit hearings.
  • Coordinate closely with the broader cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate for delivery of site and environmental studies, surveys, and diligence reports.
  • Work with internal and external Engineering teams as they progress engineering and design.
  • Work with internal construction management team on contractor selection process.
  • Coordinate with construction management team on securing ministerial permits.
  • Handoff projects once fully developed and permitted to the construction management team; track project progress through to full notice to proceed.
  • Participate in project financings answering relevant diligence questions and providing required documents.
  • Coordinate additional resources or outsideconsultants/contractorsas well as managing and meeting expenses throughout project development.
  • Apply critical thinking needed to communicate and influence employees at all levels regarding project risks, opportunities, and recommended action.
  • Provide support and analysis for Business Development pipeline reporting.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 8-10 years of project development experience in renewable energy development (significant CAISO experience required).
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in renewable energy, logistics, finance, engineering, project/construction management or equivalent.
  • Experienced people leader and manager of both direct reports and cross-functional project team subject matter authorities.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge of renewable energy project development, utilities, interconnection, permitting, contracting.
  • Extensive knowledge of renewable energy and energy storage technologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required including public speaking and/or platform skills for executive management presentations.
  • Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-20% on average but more as required by projects.
  • Experience using project management and CRM systems and developing reports.
  • MS Project experience preferred; advanced Excel experience required.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $149.000 and $186.150/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
