I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Properly performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, consistent with the age of the patient, in in-patient or outpatient settings, in compliance with departmental and professional standards and protocols.

2. Gather pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records.

3. Accurately completes all records, paperwork, and billings and submits promptly.

4. Positions and transfers patients appropriately and assists physicians with interventional exams.

5. Promptly and properly completes exams, performs QC to images and send exams to PACS for review by the radiologist.

6. Assists the radiologists with ultrasound guided interventional procedures.

7. Follow Universal protocol in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.

8. Assists in maintaining an orderly inventory and in arranging the purchase of needed supplies.

9. Monitors equipment to ensure that it remains in proper working order and ensures that proper supplies are available as needed.

10. Utilizes proper sterilization and cleansing of all probes according to department policy and procedure.

11. Assists with other job-related duties including film processing, urgent requests, and scheduling.

3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.

4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.

6. Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.

7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

1. Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography or Radiological Technology program.

2. Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in one category within one year of hire date.

Preferred:

1. Associate degree

Experience/Skills:

Required:

1. Minimum one year of experience in diagnostic ultrasound under the direction of a qualified physician.

2. Knowledge consistent with outlines in Physics and Instrumentation, Abdominal OB/Gyn Ultrasound for ARDMS exams.

3. Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with peers to produce optimum results.

4. Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and families.

Preferred:

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
