Construction Materials Engineering Technician Entry-Level

S&ME is seeking individuals eager to build their careers making an impact on construction projects and the community. Come join our Construction Services team as a Construction Materials Engineering Technician in Raleigh, North Carolina. No experience is needed.

About The Role:

As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, the field testing and observations of construction materials you perform each day help ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications. You will see construction projects from beginning to end, documenting the successful placement and use of soil, concrete, rebar, asphalt, aggregate, and other building materials. As you advance in your career, you will see more and more projects where you can say, "I helped them build that."



  • Review construction plans and specifications to ensure seamless alignment with on-site observations
  • Conduct as well as observe testing and inspections of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials, to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards
  • Utilize advanced software like Metafield to document reporting and testing results
  • Calibrate equipment to industry standards to ensure precision in testing processes
  • Conduct Special Inspection observations to enforce regulatory compliance and quality assurance on projects
  • Maintain open communication with stakeholders to foster trust and transparency, driving the success of our projects



About You:



  • You have a high school diploma/GED
  • You have 0-2+ years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • You have the ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions outside normal business hours
  • Standing up to 8-12 hours a day and walking over rough and uneven terrain, maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town, possibly overnight, for assignments as necessary
