The Department Designed specifically for the pursuit of art practices and the study of art history, the Department of Art & Art History is housed in a spacious and well-equipped facility at the northwestern edge of the SSU campus. The department offers courses of study leading to a B.A. degree in Art History and B.A. and B.F.A. degrees in Studio Art, as well as a minor in Museum and Gallery Methods. The Studio Art curriculum is designed to develop the ability to create, analyze, interpret and evaluate art. The department strives to stimulate creativity and competency as students develop their skills and knowledge of materials and technologies. Fundamental to the study of art is a belief in its potential to communicate ideas, emotions, and values necessary for understanding and functioning effectively within the modern world. The Studio program prepares majors for careers in art and work at the graduate level. The program facility houses specialized studios for the study of Ceramics, Digital Media, Painting, Printmaking, Photography and Sculpture, and includes a wood shop, welding studio, and bronze foundry. Rank and Salary Full-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.
