  • Apply engineering skills, data analysis, computational modeling to optimize design and fabirication of an implantable combination product.

  • Manage complete modeling project operations entailing requirement gathering, scoping, input data requirements, problem solving, verification, validation, and documentation.

  • Initiate & lead brainstorming and ideation sessions to develop device design and manufacturing concepts.

  • Develop experimental designs in collaboration with other engineers and scientists.

  • Work with Device Fabrication team on assessing the manufacturability of the device designs via rapid prototyping methods and accelerate design ideation phase via fit-for-purpose models and simulations.

  • Collaborate with clinical and preclinical teams to understand anatomical constraints and eliminate device mechanical failure modes.

  • Effectively communicate modeling results and findings at multiple levels in the organization through project status meetings, presentations, and reports.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in the mechanics and thermodynamics of polymers including plastics, hydrogels, and rubber materials.

  • Experience in multiphysics modeling of phase transition in engineering and biological materials

  • Familiarity with implantable medical devices, and understanding of tissue mechanics.

  • Expertise in Computer Aided Design (e.g. SolidWorks), Finite Element Method (e.g. ANSYS Mechanical, or COMSOL), Finite Volumes Method (e.g. Fluent, or Star-CCM+), and familiarity with scientific machine learning.

  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical engineering design concepts, ASTM standards, design control, and tolerance analysis with hands-on experience with materials test systems (i.e. Instron)
