Provides direct patient care utilizing the nursing process. Identifies and meets the patient's needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse in compliance with hospital policy and procedure. Administers, maintains, and terminates IV's and IV medication as specified under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse in compliance with hospital policy and procedure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Graduate of a Practical Nursing Program.

2. Current LPN Licensure in the state of West Virginia.

3. Current CPR certification.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Completion of UHC's Licensed Practical Nurse II Certification Course.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Current ACLS Certification.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Six (6) months to One (1) year of recent experience in an Acute Care Setting.

4. Experience with EPIC documentation system.

1. Understands and uses the nursing process including assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating to meet the patient's physical and psychological need.

2. Assists the Registered Nurse in health teaching of patient, family and/or significant others.

3. Provides written assessment of the patient as evidenced by appropriate documentation of nursing intervention, patient response, effectiveness, complications, and other pertinent information.

4. Demonstrates competency in technical and clinical skills, completes skills checklist, and correctly performs these skills daily as requested 100% of the time.

5. Administers medications as ordered by physician and according to accepted policy and procedure 100% of the time.

6. Demonstrates the ability to function effectively as team leader in respect to organization, communication, and prioritization 95% of the time.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing nursing duties throughout the work shift.

2. Must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis.

3. Hearing within normal range for proper assessment of breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitor alarms, etc.

4. Exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.

5. Visual acuity must be within normal range.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Must have the ability to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures.

2. Must have effective reading and comprehension skills.

3. Must have strong communication skills, written and verbal.

4. Must have math skills for calculations of medications.

5. Must have the ability to type and document accurately using electronic based record systems.

6. Must have the ability to perform concentrated and complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and highly technical situations.

7. Must have the ability to work successfully under highly stressful conditions, and must be capable of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis.

8. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and all shifts.
