Provides direct patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse, Conducts restorative nursing/maintenance programs asoutlined by staff physical and/or occupational therapists. Identifies and meets the patient's needs in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent. 2. Successful completion of a qualified nurse's aide program; or actively enrolled in a RN or LPN program having successfully completed a fundamentals of nursing course. 3. Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire date. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Certification as a nurse's aide. EXPERIENCE: 1. Prior experience as a restorative nursing aide. 2. Prior patient care experience in an acute care hospital and/or post-acute (skilled nursing, rehab hospital, or home health) setting 3. Phlebotomy experience 4. Glucometer use CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Performs direct patient assignments, applying good judgement and knowledge of skills required within the realm of the job responsibility. 2. Reports all pertinent observations and concerns directly to the Registered Nurse. 3. Demonstrates the ability to assist patients with a restorative nursing program as outlined by staff physical and/or occupational therapists. 4. Documents on appropriate areas of the patient chart as per policy and procedure. 5. Demonstrates competency in clinical and technical skills, completes skills check list, and performs these skills daily as required. 6. Provides a high level of customer service in accordance with established hospital customer service standards. 7. Assists with admission of the patient (i.e., completion of the appropriate areas of admission forms, initial vital signs, orientation to room and unit, etc.) as directed by the RN. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing job duties throughout the work shift. 2. Must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis. 3. Accommodated hearing must be within normal range 4. Accommodated vision acuity must be within normal range 5. Must be able to exert forces up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. constantly. The physical demand classification for this position is medium-heavy and is in excess of demands for light duty work. Exposure to high stress environment 5. Exposure to electrical current 6. Exposure to radiation from x-rays. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Able to take and read manual blood pressure. 2. Able to critically think 3. Able to assist patients using proper technique for transfers, gait, and basic ROM/functional excercises. 4. Able to perform basic computer skills 5. Able to take direction. 6. Able to communicate effectively verbally and written with nurses and therapists. 7. Able to self-initiate work in a fast-paced environment 8. Able to accurately attain and report vital signs 9. Able to identify basic signs of distress and report to nursing. 10. Able to properly fit and apply ambulation/mobility devices, splints, slings, and orthoses/prostheses. 11. Able and willing to complete on the job training, in-service education, and be able to carry out specific job duties under the supervision of a registered nurse.
