MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse
OR Completion of a Surgical Technology Program AND surgical technologist certification
OR Completion of summer surgical tech extern program AND surgical technologist certification required within 90 days of hire.
2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Two years of Surgical Technology experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
1. Advanced knowledge in desired specialty strongly preferred.

If Hired on or after 2/1/2024:

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Utilizes quality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile or sterile role in the OR.
2. Assists the circulating RN in monitoring technique of all persons in the OR to maintain a sterile field.
3. Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines.
4. Assists with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
5. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.
6. Assists with transportation and positioning of the patients to include assisting the surgical team by holding retractors and position of operative limb under direction of surgeon
7. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards.
8. Assists with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
9. Monitors inventory; orders; and restocks supplies, instruments, and equipment.
10. Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses following established guidelines.
11. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department.
12. Performs equipment checks as assigned.
13. Assists with the proper recording of patient charges.
14. Call with a response time of 30 minutes.
15. Serves as a mentor to the team and supports the development of level one & two technologists
16. Participates in unit-based education activities and may participate in presenting in-services for the staff.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Demonstrates and can articulate rationale for clinical practice.
2. Demonstration of clinical ability to fulfill calls responsibilities; usually requires six months work experience at WVUH.
3. Demonstrates independent ability to scrub 2 service lines.

Additional Job Description:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Graduate from a Surgical Technology Program, or previously and successfully completed an OR Scrub Tech on the job training program.

2. Must have CPR certification within 90 days of hire

EXPERIENCE:

1. Working knowledge of planning perioperative patient care and transporting the perioperative patient.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. ORT certified or certified eligible preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Previous OR scrubbing experience preferred.

1. Performs technical skills required to prepare for surgical procedures. Assists other perioperative team members in the care of the surgical patient.

2. Prepares sterile filed according to policy.

3. Demonstrates knowledge of sterile draping.

4. Maintains correct sharps, sponges, and instrument count according to policy.

5. Maintains aseptic technique according to standard.

6. Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.

7. Assists in maintenance and care of specimens according to policy.

8. Follows OSHA and Universal Precautions as per standard.

9. Sets up using Aseptic Technique.

10. Maintains working knowledge of case cart system and on call responsibilities.

11. Obtain and label physician ordered medications for use on the sterile field under the direct supervision of the RN.

12. Transportation of patient/equipment/supplies.
