Job Description

The Opportunity:

The Prescott Campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is excited to announce an opening for a dynamic and visionary Director of Student Accessibility Services. This pivotal role within the Student Affairs division will shape the future of our Department of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) and Testing Center (TC).

As the Director, you will lead with a forward-thinking approach, steering the development, implementation, and strategic growth of SAS. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that our programs provide exceptional support and accommodations for students with disabilities, in alignment with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the latest guidance from the Office of Civil Rights (OCR).

In this role, you will oversee daily operations, including the management of two full-time staff members, budget oversight, and the ongoing process of student intake and accommodation assignment. You'll be at the forefront of testing administration, employee hiring, training, and scheduling, and will be entrusted with maintaining the security and integrity of sensitive records.

Additionally, you will play a crucial role in advising and training faculty and staff on best practices for accessibility and inclusiveness. Your leadership will help foster a campus-wide culture of integration and equity, ensuring that all students have the support they need to thrive.

Job duties include:

  • 30% Administrative Oversight of Student Accessibility Services and Testing Services
  • 20% Oversight of the interactive Intake/Registration/Accommodation Process
  • 15% Staff Supervision and Development
  • 10% Outreach, Training, and Education
  • 10% Data Management, Reporting, and Assessment
  • 10% Support of the Division of Student Affairs, Campus, and University as needed
  • 5% Budget and Resource Management

This position occasionally requires long hours as well as evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education, Disability Studies, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of professional work experience with college students
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) guidance on, as well as best practices and national trends regarding, providing services to disabled students in higher education
  • Extensive experience engaging in the interactive process with disabled students who request accommodations, including reviewing documentation and conducting intake & follow-up meetings
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work independently and demonstrated strategic decision-making capabilities
  • Computer and technology skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software; electronic records management software, including electronic disability student records system (e.g. AIM) with an understanding of the need for confidentiality of student records (FERPA)
  • Familiarity with current trends in assistive and adaptive technology
  • Ability to work with a diverse campus population, including students, families, faculty, staff, and administrators, fostering an inclusive environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising full-time professional staff
  • Experience providing educational and outreach programs in a higher education setting
  • Involvement in local, state, and/or national organizations relating to higher education, disability & accessibility, or similar
