Job Summary
This is a one year limited term position and is funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.

The College of Agriculture at Auburn University seeks applicants for a Research Assistant! The individual in this position will be responsible for helping implement and maintain greenhouse research trials related to cotton and soybean breeding in Alabama. The individual will be expected to manage field aspects of research trials and supervise student workers.

Frequent travel throughout the state of Alabama will be required.

Essential Functions
Essential Functions include the following:

  • Develops or assists in the development of complex project proposals, plans, and protocols.
  • Conducts non-routine experiments, investigations and/or studies related to programs and projects in pursuit of new knowledge, techniques and concepts.
  • Coordinates or assists logistics of research to include equipment, materials, and labor needs.
  • Collects data/samples related to research and in complex cases.
  • Records and compiles data/samples.
  • May instruct students and/or supervise others' research in area of expertise.
  • Will be responsible for hiring student workers and supervising activities.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Level I: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Crop Science, Applied Biotechnology or closely related field at the time employment begins. No experience required.

Level II: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Crop Science, Applied Biotechnology or closely related field at the time employment begins plus 2 years of relevant work experience in crop science/plant breeding research practices and protocols.

Level III: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Crop Science, Applied Biotechnology or closely related field at the time employment begins plus 4 years of relevant work experience in crop science/plant breeding research practices and protocols.

Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications


Minimum Skills and Abilities
Must have a demonstrated ability to collect, organize, and analyze data, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a commitment to an inclusive and diverse campus environment.

The individual selected for this position must be able to lift at least fifty pounds, work under extreme heat and adverse weather conditions and walk up to three miles a day, as field work is a large component of this position.
Minimum Technology Skills
Familiarity with Microsoft Office
Minimum License and Certifications
Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection.
