The Nursing Services Educator (NSE) possesses advanced clinical knowledge and teaching skills. They are responsible for assisting with curriculum design and development and delivery of theory and research-based education and training programs that integrate nursing scientific and theoretical knowledge, evidence-based principles, and clinical nursing expertise while promoting a professional teaching and learning community for all new and experienced nurses and mental health technicians. The NSE coordinates the nursing academic practice partnerships program, conducts orientations and continuing education programs, and gives presentations that utilize nursing best practices, clinical research, and an evidence-based practice approach. The roles of the NSE at RBH include clinical educator, consultant, promoter of evidence-based care and best nursing practice, nursing research team member, and professional development team member. The ideal candidate for this role will have strong nursing education and psychiatric nursing experience. The NSE participates in the clinical nurse education team's quality and safety initiatives and assists the Director, Nursing Education with the evaluation and communication of program outcomes.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Director, Nursing Services Educator (NSE) and team members to deliver educational programs that integrate nursing scientific and theoretical knowledge, evidence-based principles, and clinical nursing expertise.

Assist with systematic needs assessments and training throughout the system related to clinical practice to ensure standardized nursing competence and provision of patient care.

Assess new nursing and staff members' clinical skill competence and confidence.

Focus on quality of patient-centered care and safety goals in all education and training projects.

Develop, implement, and communicate education and training programs for nurses and staff.

Assist in designing and implementing evaluation instruments including assignments and tests to determine effectiveness of training programs.

Consult with nursing leadership to identify external trainers and consultants needed for training. Assistwith recommendations regarding training resources, equipment and related communication needed to conduct it.

Coordinate academic practice partnerships student experience program.

  • Work collaboratively with academic partners as assigned.
  • Manage clinical site requests and schedule.
  • Assist in student nurse recruitment efforts.

Complete special projects as requested.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Participate in in-services, seminars, and other meetings as assigned to increase involvement and awareness of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency compliance regulations as they relate to clinical nursing education operations. Participate in committees, Rogers Operating System (ROS) team meetings, and team projects, as directed.

Additional Job Description:

Education/Training Requirements:

  • Master of Science Degree in nursing, or a related field, with a strong emphasis on psychiatric mental health clinical preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing, with minimum of two (2) years' experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing or ten (10) years' experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing in lieu of bachelor's nursing degree required.
  • Two (2) years' clinical education/teaching or leadership experience in a behavioral health setting strongly preferred.
  • Registered Nurse licensed by Wisconsin State Board of Nursing. License must be in good standing with the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Bi-annual recertification is required.
  • Formal training in the management of aggressive patients is required within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire. Annual recertification is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
