Description

WVU Libraries is seeking a Data Analysis & Visualization Librarian to join its new Research Support & Engagement (RSE) unit, which advances the library's portfolio of activities in support of the University's research enterprise. The Data Analysis & Visualization Librarian will deliver specialized research support aimed at skill development and training, information sharing, and advocacy on statistical software and data visualization, locating advising on data privacy regulations and ethical considerations. Candidates with strong data analysis and visualization experience inside or outside the traditional library setting are encouraged to apply.

Major Responsibilities



  • Lead the RSE Team's Data Analysis & Visualization service, prioritizing training, consultations and initiatives on tools such as:


    • R/RStudio
    • Python
    • Tableau
    • SPSS
    • SAS


  • Lead the RSE Team in the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of data analysis and visualization services. Services include consultations, workshops, learning and directional materials, and other instructional programming on data curation, analysis, visualization, and governance.
  • Identify and connect with University stakeholders who would benefit from data analysis and visualization services.
  • Stay current on best practices in data analysis and visualization.
  • Assist in the delivery of research data management and sharing services, including consultations, workshops, learning and directional materials.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the humanities, social sciences, STEM, or health sciences domains, offering specialized guidance and expertise through in-depth research support services, training, and assistance with information resources.
  • Deliver comprehensive general reference assistance via on-call availability, email, and chat services.
  • Engage in professional development and/or research related to the individual's assignment and/or the needs of the Libraries and the University.
  • Serve and actively contribute to relevant committees, task forces, and working groups at the Library, University, regional, and/ or national level.

  • We welcome beginning or early career librarians and anticipate filling this position at the rank of Assistant University Librarian or Associate University Librarian. Rank and salary are dependent upon experience and credentials.
  • Salary range $61,000-$70,000 commensurate with experience and faculty rank
  • Exemplary job performance, professional development and/or research, and service are required for reappointment and promotion in rank

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and/or a graduate degree in a related field
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as R, Python, Stata, SPSS, SAS, Excel/VBA, Matlab, Tableau, Power BI, GraphPad Prism, etc.
  • Applied knowledge of statistical methods and data visualization.
  • Strong organizational, project, and time management skills to lead or coordinate multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work flexibly and effectively in groups.


Faculty rank is determined by the WVU Library Criteria for Library Faculty Appointment, Retention, Promotion, and Merit. This position is an Open Rank position may be hired at the Assistant University Librarian, Associate University Librarian or University Librarian level. Rank is determined by years served in a professional librarian capacity. Assistant University Librarian (5 years or fewer), Associate University Librarian (6 year to 12 years) and University Librarian (13 years or more) years of professional library experience or its equivalent.
