SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER COUNSELOR

ADULT SUBSTANCE PROGRAM

FULL TIME - EXEMPT

Our programs include: Adult Mental Health, Youth and Family, Substance Use, Housing, Teen and Young Adult, Court Ordered, and Crisis Behavioral Health. General Summary: To provide specialized services to adults who are or at-risk of becoming chemically dependent and/or their families. Provide and coordinate substance use assessment, education, training, and placement services.

Schedule: Mon-Fri, First Shift

Location: Warwick, RI

Essential Responsibilities:




  • Conduct initial substance use assessment services for adults.
  • Provide individual, group, and family substance use treatment and counseling.
  • Coordinates referrals to other substance use treatment programs or facilities in the community/state, i.e. medically assisted treatment or inpatient.
  • Provide chemical dependency consultation, education and training to team personnel.
  • Develop and implement person centered recovery plans and document services consistent with Thrive standards.
  • Coordinate discharge planning, follow up and aftercare.
  • Monitor signs and symptoms of psychiatric functioning; medication regimen, and substance use.
  • Assist in community networking and education.
  • Provide education, training and modeling in basic daily living skills, social or parenting skills.
  • Teach clients effective techniques for managing their medication as prescribed.
  • Coordinate services within Thrive as needed.
  • Services provided in the office, home, community, schools, etc.
  • Carry and enliven a positive Thrive image consistent with the Thrive's Guiding Principles and professional code of ethics.


Qualifications

Education, Experience and Competencies:




  • Bachelor Degree in behavioral health field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Two (2) years of relevant substance abuse experience with adults.



Certifications, Licenses Requirements:



  • CDP or working toward credentialing. LCDP preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance which meets Rhode Island minimum standards required, or the ability to obtain necessary transportation in order to perform the responsibilities/tasks of the job

All employees are considered benefit eligible if their schedule is 17.5 hours per week or more. Time-off balances are pro-rated for part-time employees. Insurance plans remain the same regardless of FT or PT benefit eligibility.

Reports To:

SUBSTANCEUSE DISORDER COUNSELOR reports directly to Substance Program Manager and will be supervised according to Thrive Behavioral Health Supervision Policy.
