This position is a grade 11 with a minimum of $17.37 and mid-point of $23.16. Hourly rate offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College's compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:



An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty providing technical support for Elgin Community College theater productions and events. Work is distinguished by the ability to construct and setup scenery, setup, programing and operation of lighting, sound and general stage set-up and strike. Additionally, maintain and clean theaters and equipment used in the making of productions. General supervision is received from the assigned manager.



Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:




  1. Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, with a minimum of one-year prior experience as a theater technician or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. College level coursework in Technical Theater Construction, Rigging, Lighting, and Sound - can be enrolled in coursework at present.
  3. Good knowledge of all technical production and performance aspects of theatre.
  4. Good knowledge of Qlab and other audio playback systems.
  5. Good knowledge in the operation of theatrical video equipment
  6. Working skills to operate theatrical lighting and audio equipment systems.
  7. Working skills in all facets of theatrical carpentry, especially in the area of rigging and scenery tool equipment use.
  8. Working skills in reading and interpreting blueprints, sound and lighting plots.
  9. Working skills in the ability to focus under pressure and follow instructions.
  10. Working skills to exercise safe practices in the performance of job duties.
  11. Working skill in developing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with internal and external customers
  12. Working skill in written and verbal communication
  13. Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
  14. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department



Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



Essential Duties:




  1. Construct, set-up, paint and tear down sets for all productions within the ECC theaters and other events, as assigned. Load and unload scenery and equipment. Handle rigging to move equipment, sets, etc. for productions. May use a truck and/or other machines to deliver/remove scenery and equipment.
  2. Operation of lighting or audio consoles, theatrical rigging system and other equipment for all performances and events.
  3. Maintenance and repair of all theatrical equipment.
  4. Organization of theatrical spaces and equipment.
  5. Maintains required training, licensure and/or certification
  6. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
  7. Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
  8. Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
  9. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality



Other Duties:




  1. May use a truck and/or other machines to deliver/remove scenery and equipment.
  2. Safely operate a manlift or scissor lift during work calls.
  3. Use fall protection equipment and system when working at height in the catwalks.
  4. May require a valid Illinois driver's license.
  5. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description
