The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF's) Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) is conducting a search for multiple research faculty members at the rank of associate scientist to lead the design, development, testing and analysis of new artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms in support of cutting-edge research into new simulation and training technologies. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure earning position supported by contracts and grants. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in designing and implementing artificial intelligence (AI) models.

Responsibilities:


  • Work as a member of cross-functional interdisciplinary teams to design digital twin frameworks that incorporate advanced AI and ML algorithms as components of the simulation's overall software architecture.

  • Design new AI and ML algorithms that extend the current state of the art and improve the performance of digital twin systems.

  • Document, develop, test, modify, and maintain the computer software configuration items necessary to instantiate new AI and ML algorithms, enable digital twin interfaces, and generate the desired behaviors for the overall digital twin system.

  • Utilize strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills to promote team collaboration and discussion of innovative project solutions.

  • Provide data and progress reports as required by research contracts.

  • Support opportunity development activities, including events, meetings and tours with current and potential future project stakeholders and partners.


Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Artificial Intelligence or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of Python, C++, C and object-oriented programming for optimal AI implementation.

  • Knowledge of advanced simulation techniques that leverage AI.

  • Knowledge of explainable AI approaches.

  • Five or more years of experience in either design, development, or implementation of advanced AI and ML algorithms.
