Purpose

To temporarily work as a Surplus Property team member to perform various manual tasks necessary for the receipt, collection, transport of materials, and management of surplus items required to meet the needs of campus clients at The University of Texas at Austin. This is a temporary, four-month, full-time position.

Responsibilities
  • Works as a team member to safely load, transport, unload, and relocate furniture and equipment to collect, manage, and dispose of University property in support of campus clients.
  • Safely lifts, pushes, and pulls up to 75 pounds in performance of job duties.
  • Drives UT vehicles, including box trucks, in performance of job duties.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior and provides professional customer service to clients customers, and visitors while representing Facilities Services organizational goals by abiding by the work rules as described by the Facilities Services Employee Policy Manual and The University of Texas at Austin Handbook of Operating Procedures.
  • Clearly communicates written and oral information to and from supervisor and or clients to perform essential functions of job. Follows written and verbal instructions daily from supervisors to complete job assignments.
  • Operates power and manual warehouse equipment to efficiently load and unload material.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support organizational goals and objectives, including occasional assistance with University special events.
Required Qualifications

High school or GED. Experience following basic work instructions. One year of experience working as a laborer. One year of experience in varied phases of transportation services, including moving furniture and equipment. Current Class "C" Operator Driver License required. Prior to date of hire, applicant selected must provide a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) showing a driving history going back 36 months. This includes all states resided in for the past 36 months. MVR will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a University-owned vehicle. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Associates Degree. More than one year of experience in varied phases of transportation services, including moving furniture and equipment
with verifiable forklift operator experience.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Work Shift
  • Mon-Fri, 7:30am-4:30 pm with occasional overtime duty required on nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a temporary four-month, full-time position.
