This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train and mentor a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team of new Thermal Systems Engineers
  • Manage your direct reports' professional development (e.g., coaching, routine one-on-one development conversations, performance reviews, and promotion management)
  • Lead the development and management of the Thermal IPT specifications and requirements (hardware and software)
  • Lead the development and management of thermal interfaces, including Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and models.
  • Standardize Thermal Systems Engineering approaches across Lunar missions
  • Own the verification and validation of Thermal requirements, in collaboration with the Thermal test engineers, including verification activities, methods and plans.
  • Perform traceability analysis of requirements to higher levels, and to verification activities
  • Utilize Systems Engineering tools such as Jama, Windchill and Cameo
  • Support and present at major gated reviews including design reviews, readiness reviews, etc.
  • Monitor technical progress, requirements, budget, schedule, deliverables and risks as well as review recommendations for change with program management.
  • Communicate progress to leadership team via; program management reviews weekly/monthly, finance reviews, long term forecasting business plan, and project deep dives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or similar
  • Experience in the generation of requirements, decomposition, and analysis.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and mentoring employees.
  • 8+ years of experience in thermal analysis for spacecraft systems
  • Experience solving a variety of spacecraft engineering challenges
  • Familiar with agile project management.
  • Experience in design and analysis of safety critical systems.
  • Experience in safety-critical aerospace vehicle certification processes.
  • Experience with space vehicle design, verification, integration, and test.
  • Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  • Experience managing subcontracts.

Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $136,620.00-$191,268.00;CO applicants is $125,235.00-$175,329.00;WA applicants is $136,620.00-$191,268.00
