The Dean of Workforce and Trades will supervise our award-winning Center of Enology and Viticulture. With over 150 wineries in our service area, this center supports the workforce training of this vibrant industry (https://www.wwcc.edu/programs/enology-viticulture/). The Workforce and Trades division also includes partnerships with leading manufacturers. Our John Deere Technology program is the only one of its kind west of the Rocky Mountains (https://www.wwcc.edu/programs/john-deere-technology/). This position will also lead the implementation of our new programs such as Audio Engineer, a cross-disciplinary Farm to Fork initiative, and a Cybersecurity program in partnership with the National Cybersecurity Training and Education Center.

Walla Walla Community College offers a comprehensive compensation and benefit package. The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $112,163 - $126,902.

About the role:

The Dean of Workforce Transfer and Trades manages and leads an instructional area that includes the following programs within the Division of Instruction: Entrepreneurism and Marketing, Business Administration, Agriculture Systems, Manufacturing Trades, Enology and Viticulture, Culinary, and Transportation Trades, including the Applied Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degrees. The Dean of Workforce Transfer and Trades supervises several direct reports, including: an administrative assistant, program chairs, faculty (full-time and adjunct), and instructional support staff.

What you will be doing:

The following functions and responsibilities are accomplished by working with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT), as well as chairs, coordinators, faculty, and staff in the Transfer and Trades Area:

Leadership & Supervision

    Supervises and manages the following programs: Entrepreneurism and Marketing, Business Administration, Agriculture Systems, Manufacturing Trades, Enology and Viticulture, Culinary, and Transportation Trades
  • Builds cohesion between the Workforce Transfer and Trades programs, creating wrap-around support for programs across divisions
  • Develops and maintains relationships across areas and with community partners, such as local school district leaders, to ensure ongoing cooperation and collaboration
  • Participates in and provides professional development opportunities for faculty and staff in the Workforce Transfer and Trades Area
  • Serves as the College's Chief Professional Technical Administrator

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Prepares recommendations for and administers the area's budget; oversees all expenditures for goods, services, and personnel
  • Provides management oversight for all existing area grants.

Institutional and Community Service

  • Fosters an environment of continuous innovation within a rural community college
  • Seeks out opportunities for new programs, collaborations, partnerships, and grants in collaboration with the Vice President of Instruction
  • Leads and supports faculty and staff in efforts to promote equity and diversity through instruction and programming
  • Promotes sustainable opportunities for instructional wrap-around services in support of student retention and completion
  • Participates on college committees, such as the VPI Leadership Team
  • Represents WWCC by attending standing meetings of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) in related areas

What we would like to see from you:

  • Master's degree in applicable disciplines from an accredited institution.
  • Three years' teaching experience in a higher education setting (full-time or equivalent); teaching experience as a teaching assistant or adjunct instructor may count toward the requirement.
  • Three years' experience in higher education leadership (Assistant Dean, Department Chair, Director, etc.) or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant acquisition and management
  • Demonstrated experience, passion and commitment for addressing diversity, inclusion, and equity issues and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities, cultures, and viewpoints.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience teaching in a variety of modalities: in person, online, hybrid, web- or technology-enhanced, synchronous or asynchronous.
  • Proficient in various technology systems, such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Forms), Cloud-based platforms (PeopleSoft, CANVAS).
