Position Summary
This is a part-time, on call, non-exempt, no more than 30 hours per week position which consists of eight-hour varied shifts on multiple campuses including nights and weekends. Schedule will include some holidays. The Safety & Security Department operates 24/7.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas (university buildings, dormitories, parking lots) on foot or in a vehicle to ensure security, and to make presence known in a manner that contributes to the deterrence of security breaches
  • Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, faculty, and individuals responsible for transportation of monies to or from university
  • Prepare written and computerized reports of daily activity and incidents occurring in, on or around campus property
  • Provide visible patrol and observe and report irregularities, such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, missing signs, deficient parking lot surface conditions, and security doors left unlocked; sound alarm in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons
  • Perform periodic checks of emergency call boxes and/or streetlights to ensure proper functioning; report malfunctions
  • Provide visible patrol and examine doors, windows, and gates to determine if they are secure
  • Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons or violators, address security breaches and suspicious persons and notifies police authorities as needed
  • Drive university vehicles, providing for the safe and efficient transportation to the university community and visitors
  • Provide public assistance when requested, including lockout services and information
  • Participate and pass annual/semi-annual training classes including but not limited to NIMS (National Incident Management System), First Aid/Narcan, ASP (Armament Systems and Procedures) baton and handcuffing and any computer-based online training
  • Participate in and promote a culture of continuing quality improvement
  • Perform other duties or assignments as required

Minimum Requirements

  • 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Illinois driver's license
  • Provision of a clear background check
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret instructions
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all Safety and Security rules, regulations, policy and procedures, written memorandums, and verbal instructions issued by the director or his designee
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to apply firm and courteous instructions with the students, employees and visitors
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively take the appropriate course of action
  • Ability to establish and maintain cordial and effective working relationships with the university community
  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
  • Availability to work a varied work schedule encompassing all shifts
  • Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university

Physical Requirements of Position
This position requires the ability to walk, sit or stand for extended periods of time, run when necessary, climb stairs, lift up to 50 lbs. with no assistance, and to work in adverse weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may sometimes be loud. Some work will be performed on a computer in an office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Also requires the ability to perform the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
