Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Neuroscience ICU

Work Schedule:

100% FTE, mainly day hours with rotating night and weekends (10-12 hour shifts). Includes additional compensation for night and weekend hours. External hires may be eligible for up to $10,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.

Come provide care to adults with serious neurological illnesses in our Neuroscience ICU. At UW Health - an academic medical center and Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Program - you will treat the most complex trauma and stroke cases in the state.

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA):



  • Collaborate with faculty, residents, fellows, surgeons, and nursing staff to provide on-going patient care and management.
  • Partner with a larger team including Neurosurgery, Neurocritical Care and Neurology to provide medical and perioperative care during critical illness.
  • Perform routine clinical procedures independently as outlined in practice agreements/scope of practice.
  • UW Health's Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Advisory Council ensures that your voices are heard. This unique advisory council serves to promote, support, advocate and advise on APP practice and provide expertise and counsel on APP roles across the organization.
  • UW Health is committed to recognizing our advanced practice providers for their outstanding commitment and service to our patients and their profession. There are routine employee recognition and appreciation activities to participate in throughout the year.
  • UW Health supports a unique APP leadership structure in which all APPs report to the Department of Advanced Practice, led by advanced practice providers. These leaders advocate for advanced practice providers amongst UW Health administrators.
  • Advanced practice providers with experience or an interest in Neuroscience ICU (NSICU), acute care, neurocritical care, surgical ICU (SICU), and medical ICU (MICU) would succeed on this team.

Education:

Minimum -

If Nurse Practitioner:

Master's or Doctorate's degree from accredited Nursing Program.

If Physician Assistant:

Bachelor's or Master's degree from accredited PA Program.

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum - State of Wisconsin NP or PA licensure

If Nurse Practitioner*:



  • Active RN and APRN certifications and licenses, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice AND
  • Active board certification as a NP in area of clinical practice. These may include the following: Acute Care only (Adult or Adult/Gerontology will be considered only if previous ICU experience).


If Physician Assistant*:



  • Active PA license, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice AND
  • Active PA board certification


All Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant applicants must have*: Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire.

*Active license or eligibility to obtain active licensure in state of practice. This may include licensing in Wisconsin and other state(s) of practice.
