Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.

Additional Department Summary: Postdoctoral positions are available at The University of Alabama to individuals with research interests. Individuals holding these positions are to conduct research with various faculty members on a variety of projects.

The University of Alabama seeks applications for Postdoctoral positions. Successful candidates will hold terminal degrees and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in a research area or areas covered by the College. The College and or hiring department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Biology, Evolution, or equivalent. Applicants will need to have completed their degree by the start of the appointment.

Skills and Knowledge: Applicants should have a publication track record that focuses on genomics, preferably within neuroscience.

Preferred Qualifications: Background and research interests in neurodegeneration, comparative genomics, next gen sequencing, transcriptomics and metagenomics. Experience in RNA sequencing (bulk and/or single-cell). Should demonstrate the ability to lead projects and collaborate with a diverse group of peers.
