Supports the overall planning, development, implementation, and management of all district sponsored, operated, and funded summer programs. Provides support and direct assistance to all schools operating district sponsored summer programs across all high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools. Directly assists schools to ensure that all district funded school-based programs meet all state and district requirements. Consults with schools to help manage their individual summer program plans. Helps in the setting up of program schedules, adding of courses, ordering of material needs, planning for teacher recruitment and the hiring process. Supports the development and updating of family facing materials including flyers, applications, and website content. Will also work with partners and vendors to identify quality practices and resources as well as design professional development to support teaching and learning in the district.


Essential Functions


During the School Year:



  • Supports with the evaluation of previous year's summer programming.
  • Development of comprehensive summer work plans.
  • Supports development of operation plans for district run programs including High School Credit Recovery programs, Apex, and Middle School Academic Recovery programs.
  • Supports planning and development of district sponsored school-based summer offerings.
  • Development and updating of family facing materials including flyers, applications, and website content.
  • Development of recruitment materials for summer job offerings.
  • Supports hiring of all summer program staff.
  • Professional learning of staff participating in summer events.



During Summer:



  • Supports the day-to-day management and oversight of all district operated and funded programs and partners.
  • Supports the day-to-day implementation and management of district sponsored school-based summer offerings.
  • Leads and manages summer program learning walks, collects feedback, and follow up with programs regarding immediate needs.
  • Supports responses to parents, schools and student inquiries that come through the summer email account and Summer Help Line.
  • Supports and manages summer payroll and manages the compilation of mandatory staff worklogs.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications



  • Master's degree in education or related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) with applicable endorsement.
  • Three years teaching experience including experiences in teaching, managing, supporting summer programming at either the school or district level.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver professional development.
  • Knowledge of standards and current curriculum framework and of current "best practices" in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations.
  • Interpersonal skills that ensure effective teambuilding and understanding for the team process.
  • Skilled in interpreting, understanding, and applying data.
  • Ability to provide training and instruction to teachers, staff, and administrators.
  • Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications.
