The University of Arizona's Information Technology Services (UITS) invites you to apply to the role of Application Systems Developer III. The Academic/Instructional Platform and Application Systems Developer Senior operates, enhances, and maintains the custom web application and orchestration layer supporting the University of Arizona's College of Information Science Cybersecurity Learning Environment. This position works directly with faculty and students to translate academic requirements into technical environments, manages application-level system support, and coordinates student provisioning for cybersecurity courses. This role bridges application development and systems administration, requiring expertise in both web technologies, Windows and Linux infrastructure. | Duties & Responsibilities |
Application Platform Operations and Maintenance:
- Operate and enhance the custom JavaScript-based web application.
- Maintain the orchestrator and Proxmox API integrations.
- Manage Docker and Docker Compose services.
- Maintain Postgres database and Redis cache dependencies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application-level failures.
- Monitor application performance and logs.
Course Environment Design and System Configuration:
- Design and configure course-specific environments based on instructor requirements.
- Work directly with faculty to understand and implement technical specifications.
- Develop course templates and automation scripts.
- Translate academic requirements into deployable technical environments.
- Validate course environments at expected enrollment scale.
- Configure RDP, VNC, SSH remote desktop integration.
Student Identity and Provisioning Operations:
- Coordinate student account generation and provisioning workflows.
- Manage system-level account creation and access controls.
- Handle password resets and account troubleshooting.
- Support late adds, withdrawals, and section changes.
- Maintain audit logging and student-data handling compliance.
- Ensure proper permissions and role-based access.
- Integrate the application workflows into university systems such as WebAuth, Grouper, and Stache.
System Documentation and Knowledge Transfer:
- Maintain application and system documentation; create and update runbooks for common procedures.
- Document system configurations, dependencies, and deployment processes.
- Support onboarding of new team members and student workers.
- Maintain current system inventory and change logs.
Incident Response and System Troubleshooting:
- Participate in incident response for application and system-level failures.
- Diagnose and resolve application performance issues.
- Troubleshoot distributed application and database problems.
- Provide first-level support for instructor and student issues.
- Escalate infrastructure issues to backup systems administrator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Problem-solving in complex, distributed application systems.
- Communication skills for translating between technical
developers and non-technical faculty stakeholders. - Ability to learn new technologies and frameworks quickly.
- Project management and task prioritization skills.
- Attention to detail and documentation quality.
- Collaborative teamwork and knowledge-sharing orientation.

support. - Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
- Knowledge of security best practices and vulnerability

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
