Job Summary

About Us: Located within the Mass General Brigham Department of Emergency Preparedness and Continuity (DEPC), the Center for Disaster Medicine (CDM) hosts the research, educational, and external service programs of the Department. CDM programs range from specific efforts to enhancing Regional healthcare emergency readiness to broader, academically-based initiatives focused on expanding knowledge within the field of healthcare emergency preparedness The CDM team is comprised of interdisciplinary subject matter experts, including national and international experts in their fields, leading the development of preparedness programs and resources to meet current and future healthcare challenges.

About You: You are an experienced project manager and/or emergency manager with a strong interest and experience in project and programmatic management. You're a high performing, mission-driven professional with a proven track record of leading and delivering successful projects. You bring a strong ability to manage projects in a fast-paced environment, exhibit critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, collaborate across teams, and deliver high quality outcomes. You have strong communication and interpersonal skills and are adept at working collaboratively with a diverse group of partners.

About the Work: Under the direction of the Senior Program Manager Regional Disaster Health Response System (RDHRS), the Senior Project Manager will work as part of a team to lead projects and initiatives on behalf of CDM that strengthen healthcare emergency preparedness in Region 1 and beyond, primarily through the Region 1 Regional Disaster Health Response System (RDHRS). The Senior Project Manager works with the Senior Program Manager and the Director of CDM to lead critical readiness projects from concept to completion by developing project plans that outline goals, activities, and milestones, managing and facilitating project meetings, and collaborating with critical stakeholders to accomplish programmatic objectives. This position is grant-funded and is contingent on continued availability of these funds.

Qualifications

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Manages and coordinates multiple projects and initiatives across Center for Disaster Medicine (CDM) programs, managing assigned workstreams and strategic priorities.
    • Develops comprehensive project plans, including goals, timelines, milestones, and deliverables, in alignment with internal and external partners, to support successful project execution.
    • Monitors project progress and performance, proactively identifying risks, barriers, and opportunities, and implementing solutions
  • Leads and facilitates project meetings, working groups, and stakeholder discussions; prepares agendas, documents decisions, tracks action items, and ensures timely follow-up.
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains project documentation, presentations, reports, and other programmatic deliverables.
    • Provides regular project updates to program leadership and key stakeholders progress reports to support informed decision-making.
  • Represent program in regional and national working groups, committees, associations, and collaborative initiatives, contributing subject matter expertise and advancing strategic priorities

Patient Movement

  • Serves as the project lead for operationalizing all aspects of the Patient Movement Capability with the RDHRS program.
    • Recruits, trains, and onboards volunteer reservists and staff to support patient movement operations, ensuring workforce readiness and sustainability.
    • Supports development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of operational plans and procedures to support effective activation of the patient movement system.
  • Supports stakeholder engagement to increase awareness, participation, and integration of patient movement capabilities across healthcare and preparedness partners.

Response Operations

  • Supports program response operations (following appropriate onboarding and training) by serving as an on-call Duty Officer for assigned periods of time
  • Participates in CDM response activations and demobilizations as assigned.
  • Participates in the after-action processes, contributing to the development of continuous improvement plans following exercises and/or response to real-world incidents.

Supports program operations and strategic initiatives by performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Proven working experience in project management, in a complex, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and consensus building skills.
  • Experience in emergency management strongly desired; knowledge of hospital and/or healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Maturity and operational problem solving/decision making experience.
  • Ability to lead and work with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and creation of exceptional work products.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Powerpoint, Teams, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with project management/task tracking software.
  • Ability and interest in learning new software applications.
  • Completion of ICS/NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800 courses, before or upon hire.

Education

Bachelor's Degree: Required

Master's Degree: Preferred

Experience:
Required: 5-7 years of experience in project management and/oremergency preparedness

Working Conditions

  • This position will be hybrid in nature, and the incumbent will work with their supervisor to establish a final schedule; however, candidates should anticipate being on campus 3 days per week.
  • Works in an office setting and potentially in the clinical environment of the Emergency Department and other patient care units.
  • May be required to travel to offsite facilities and to attend meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours, as needed.
  • May be required to report to the hospital or offsite locations outside of normal business hours to respond to events that require emergency support.
  • Must be available by pager/cell phone outside of normal business hours during assigned on-call shifts.
  • May be required to work extended shifts for multiple periods during emergency events.
