Job Description

The Simulation Operations Manager oversees daily operations, facilities, and technical infrastructure for simulation activities across all UMKC School of Medicine simulation sites. This role manages operational staff, schedules center events, maintains IT/AV systems and center inventories, and collaborates with faculty to ensure high-quality, resource-aligned educational events. Regular travel between Kansas City and St. Joseph, Missouri, is required and reimbursed in accordance with university policy. This position is not remote.

Operations
  • Resource & Inventory Control: Oversee inventory, purchasing, maintenance, and vendor relations for simulation supplies and equipment, manikins, and IT/AV systems across all sites.
  • The Operations Manager and SP Director are jointly accountable for hybrid and SP events.
  • Utilization Tracking: Maintain daily usage logs and utilization data for spaces, equipment, and personnel to inform reporting and resource planning.
  • Technical Guidance: Review instructional plans and event requests to assess operational feasibility and advise faculty on technical best practices.
  • Standardization: Develop policies, templates, and operational workflows for manikin and task trainer activities.
Program Administration & Leadership
  • Staff Supervision: Hire, train and onboard, schedule, evaluate, and remediate simulation operations direct reports; lead operations team meetings and oversee performance management.
  • Strategic Planning: Align daily operational priorities with long-term program goals, accreditation standards, and facility expansion initiatives.
  • Institutional Representation: Represent the simulation program locally, regionally, and nationally as assigned.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Set expectations, coordinate event planning, and incorporate feedback to elevate requested activities.
Education, Assessment, & Faculty Support
  • Technical Training: Educate faculty, staff, and students on simulation equipment, learning management platforms, and emerging technologies.
  • Curriculum Support: Assist in piloting new simulation scenarios, supporting research studies, and contributing to faculty development efforts.
  • Evaluation and Outcomes Reporting: ensure post-event evaluations are completed for all simulation activities; log, filter, and prepare evaluation data for reporting; and submit it to the appropriate director, who guides review and dissemination. The Operations Manager and SP Director are jointly accountable for hybrid events.
  • Activity Management: Support activities and supplement Simulation Operations Specialists as needed.
  • Instruct American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for School of Medicine learners.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., fine arts, public health, health education, management).
  • At least three years of experience working in post-secondary education, healthcare administration, or medical education simulation.
  • Clinical experience in a healthcare field.
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with IT/AV systems, basic hardware maintenance, and simulation platforms (e.g., Canvas, LearningSpace, LLEAP).
  • Management and/or business knowledge and experience.
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring salary for this position has been established as up to $60,000 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
