As a Piping Designer at Day & Zimmermann, you will play a crucial role within the Engineering Division by developing precise engineering drawings and CAD models that serve as the foundation for complex piping systems. Under direct supervision, you will use your technical expertise to interpret rough sketches, engineering notes, and design principles while adhering to company standards and regulatory requirements.

This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience designing critical infrastructure components and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support innovative projects in a dynamic work environment.

Throughout your tenure, you will contribute to high-quality design deliverables that promote operational efficiency and safety. Your proactive approach to learning and applying design standards will be supported by ongoing guidance from experienced engineers and designers.

The role encompasses responsibilities that will enhance your knowledge of project lifecycle management, documentation accuracy, and technical communication. D&Z International values inclusive collaboration and offers a workplace where diverse ideas and expertise come together to engineer solutions that impact clients worldwide.

As a Piping Designer, here is the work you'll do:
  • Create detailed 2D CAD sketches and drawings based on provided specifications, rough drafts, and design briefs, ensuring compliance with established engineering standards and project criteria.
  • Manage drawing files meticulously, maintaining accurate records and revisions to support project documentation and quality assurance processes.
  • Participate in field walkdowns and site visits under guidance, assisting in the verification of equipment layouts, pipe routing, and integration within multidisciplinary systems.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally by communicating effectively with engineers, project managers, and other designers to coordinate design inputs and resolve technical issues.
  • Review and back-check engineering drawings to identify discrepancies, implement corrections, and uphold the highest standards of documentation integrity.
  • Support material specification and requisition processes by preparing detailed drawings and documentation that inform procurement and fabrication activities.
  • Engage in continuous learning and development opportunities to enhance technical competencies and stay updated with industry best practices and emerging technologies.
This role is for you if you have these skills:
  • Proficiency with 2D CAD software tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, or equivalent platforms, enabling the creation of accurate and detailed technical drawings.
  • A solid understanding of piping design principles, including knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, and piping codes relevant to industrial engineering projects.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow detailed instructions from discipline leads and senior engineers to deliver quality work aligned with project requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clear and effective interaction within the team and with external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively in a team environment, fostering positive professional relationships and contributing to a cooperative project atmosphere.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality, with the ability to meticulously verify and correct drawings to prevent project delays or errors.
And if you have these qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required; an Associate's Degree (AA) or Technical Associates Degree is preferred, indicating foundational technical education suitable for this role.
  • Technical degrees related to engineering design, drafting, or a closely related discipline are advantageous and support career progression within the field.
  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience working with AutoCAD or similar CAD software, demonstrating practical application of design tools in a technical setting.
  • Knowledge or certification related to piping design standards, engineering drafting, or CAD software proficiency would be a plus.
