HDR is currently looking for Funding/Financing Intern for the Washington D.C. office. Interns will have the opportunity to develop skills related to funding evaluation, grant strategy, strategic planning, innovative project delivery analysis, and financial planning. The work typically supports funding, financing, and project delivery strategy assignments, including federal infrastructure grant applications. Candidates with sound knowledge and skills in technical document development, researching and evaluating State and Federal program and funding requirements, financial analysis capabilities, and strong written and verbal communication skills will excel in this position.

In the role of Funding/Finance Intern, we'll count on you to:
  • Assist development of financial plans and models
  • Assist in the identifying projects that would be competitive for discretionary grant funding from state and federal programs
  • Research and evaluate potential funding sources and financing strategies and assist in the development of financial strategies for transportation and water infrastructure projects.
  • Support analysis of financial, economic, and statistical data for infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct research analyses, including collecting and processing data, utilizing knowledge of available sources of financial and economic data.
  • Support the development of solutions to address economic, financial, and policy issues impacting infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with diverse project teams (internal and external) for data collection, project development, and technical analysis
  • Research and write reports and technical documents
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in planning, Economics, Public Finance, Business or related field, required
  • Interest and potential experience in the development of annual budgets, capital improvement planning, or financial analysis for transportation agencies, ports, railroads, utilities, Metropolitan Planning Organizations and/or federal, state or municipal governments
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required
  • Position may require an individual with the ability to support interaction with clients
  • 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Local candidates preferred
Required Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Attention to detail a must
  • Must possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
