JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PERIOD OF EVALUATION

1. Complies with established policies and procedures related to work schedule.

1. Gowns self and dons sterile gloves using closed gloving technique.

1. Assists other team members to don sterile gowns and gloves.

1. Creates and maintains sterile field.

1. Uses principles of aseptic technique in all situations.

1. Inspects sterile items for contamination before opening them.

1. Maintains sterility while opening sterile items.

1. Recognizes and initiates corrective actions when breaks in aseptic technique occur.

1. Controls own movement within the sterile field and functions within the designated area.

1. Guards and maintains the sterile field.

1. Demonstrates knowledge of use and handling disposal of medications on sterile field.

1. Provides equipment and supplies based on patient needs.

1. Performs in role of specialty service (Ortho, Neuro, Pediatric, OHNS, Plastic Reconstructive, Cardiothoracic,

   Vascular , GU, GYN and oncological specialities) technologist under the direction of the clinical Supervisor.

1. Reviews the specialty service schedule with the Clinical Supervisor to assess equipment and surgical

assistant staffing needs.

B. Demonstrates knowledge of specialty related anatomy and physiology.

C. Demonstrates the ability to safely utilize and troubleshoot service instrumentation and equipment.

1. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and prioritizes daily workload while apprising the Clinical Supervisor

or Charge Nurse of his/her availability.

E. Collaborates with Biomedical technicians regarding repair and maintenance of equipment.

1. Assists the Clinical Supervisor and CNIII with service-related activities such as checking carts, ordering

supplies, etc.

1. Collaborates with other members of the specialty service team regarding patient care decisions and

operational issues.

H. Communicates patient information in a timely fashion and maintains confidentiality.

XV. Participates in staff training and development.

A. Precepts new staff, students, and trainees in the scrub role.

B. Provides feedback regarding preceptee progress.

C. Act as a resource to new staff, students, and trainees.

D. Meets and exceeds all senior surgical technologist criteria.
