If you are an RN who has current Operating Room experience, we invite you to consider a career with The Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital at UAMS Health.The operating room registered nurse (OR RN) provides direct patient care throughout the perioperative process, including the preoperative, intraoperative, and immediate postoperative phases. This role requires the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for surgical patients while maintaining a safe and sterile environment. OR RN collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other perioperative team members to coordinate care before, during, and after surgical procedures. Key responsibilities include conducting patient assessments and verifications, confirming the surgical site, preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, and continuously monitoring the patient's condition throughout surgery. Acting as a patient advocate, the OR RN ensures that safety standards are upheld and responds promptly to any changes in patient status. The role also involves effective communication with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to provide education on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and postoperative care instructions. Additional duties include documenting intraoperative care, managing surgical instruments and equipment, adhering to infection prevention protocols, facilitating smooth transitions to recovery staff, and participating in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. The OR RN works collaboratively with patients, families, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and perioperative staff to deliver comprehensive, individualized surgical care.
