All faculty at Georgia State are, as part of their essential job duties, expected to: (1) be physically present on-campus as needed to contribute to Georgia State's in-person educational experience, and (2) be able to teach in each of the following instructional modalities - in-person, online, or blended/hybrid - as determined by their Department Chair or Dean.

This position is located at GSU (Georgia State University) Perimeter College's Dunwoody campus and serves both the Dunwoody and Alpharetta campus communities. Regular work at both campuses is required. The Dunwoody Campus sits on 100 acres in a residential area of north DeKalb County, where the college has developed a strong reputation as a community partner and institution for higher learning. About 10 miles north of Atlanta, the campus boasts a culturally diverse student body and vibrant student life activities, including the annual, well-attended international festival. Dunwoody is recognized for its highly regarded dental hygiene program. In addition, the Dunwoody Campus Observatory is an attraction for astronomy students and residents who enjoy night sky viewing.

The Alpharetta Campus is popular for students interested in business and in Dual Enrollment, a program that allows high school students to attend college and high school simultaneously. Science-minded students also find a welcome home on Alpharetta Campus, where Perimeter College offers physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, upper-level math and computer science classes and labs. A multi-million-dollar wing of biology and chemistry labs on the campus is preparing students for work in the growing Alpharetta and north Fulton County science and technology industries.

The Georgia State University Library seeks an innovative, collegial, and forward-thinking colleague to join us as a Department Head at the Dunwoody Campus.

The Department Head manages the Alpharetta and Dunwoody library facilities as part of the leadership team for Perimeter Library Services. They are also a part of the University Library department head team and collaborates with library leadership. The Department Head supervises the campus library faculty and staff and works with campus partners across academic and administrative departments to contribute to student learning, retention, and success.

Minimum of five years of progressively responsible supervisory and/or management experience.

This position is eligible for hiring at the ranks listed below:

ALA-accredited master's degree in information/library science.

Successful experience supervising faculty librarians.

Experience in public services and user-centered reference and instructional services.

Experience providing service to first- and second-year students.

Demonstrated record of outreach and programming.

Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

Ability to provide leadership and vision for the Alpharetta and Dunwoody library team.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Knowledge of trends in synchronous and asynchronous instruction.

Ability to travel between campuses and participate in online meetings.

Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools and their potential uses in teaching, learning, research support, or related professional contexts.

Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse library users and colleagues.

A criminal background check is required.

Twelve-month assignment

Position may require occasional nonstandard hours (including nights, weekends, online, hybrid and other campus locations.)
