Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) organization is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for DatacenterInfrastructureDesign Manager to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world's largest online services.



Responsibilities

The DatacenterInfrastructureDesign Managerwill be responsible for thefacilitation, delivery, and expansionof Microsoft's industry-leading datacenternetworking and telecommunicationdesigns focusing on development and implementation in existing facilities and sites. This includes the development of innovative technology and advanced concepts from feasibility studies through design development,permitting,construction, and the turnover toOperations. This role will provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadershipfor our datacenternetwork infrastructure designs. To be successful in this role the candidate will overseethedelivery ofmultiple, concurrent,completeDatacenter designsolutionsaligned with the scopes, schedules,and budgetsof the projects. TheDesignManagerwill engage with key Microsoft stakeholder groups as well as outside vendorswhospecialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.

  • Coordinatea team of architects, engineers and designers and deliver projects aligned with the defined scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Collaborate with on-site operations teams to perform feasibility / gap analysis for conversion of existing datacenter spaces to new / upgraded uses.
  • Havecommunication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Possessproficiencyin commercial and industrial architecture andengineeringwith a primary focus on datacenter design.
  • Able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-pacedenvironmentand do sowith an even temperament.
  • Able to work with integrity,bemethodical,detailed-orientedwithwork ethics.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering,or related field AND 4+ years of experience in engineering, architecture, network engineering, construction engineering, building forensics, OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team design/construction projects.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of engineering, architecture, construction engineering.
  • 5+ years experience leading cross discipline engineering / Architectural teams in design for construction projects.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or Architect
  • PMP certification

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
