Senior Accountant

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the accuracy and integrity of the company's general ledger and financial reporting processes. This position plays a key role in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting. The Senior Accountant works closely with cross-functional teams and other members of the Accounting and Finance organization to ensure transactions are properly recorded, reconciled, and reported in accordance with GAAP and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of assigned accounting activities.
• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, reclassifications, intercompany transactions, and other complex accounting entries.
• Prepare and maintain detailed balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Reconcile subledger balances to the general ledger and prepare adjusting entries as necessary.
• Perform intercompany account reconciliations and assist with the resolution of intercompany differences.
• Review general ledger activity for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate account classification.
• Prepare monthly account analysis and variance explanations, identifying unusual or unexpected fluctuations.
• Review bank activity and perform bank reconciliations.
• Support reconciliation of payment processing activity and other transaction-level data to the general ledger.
• Assist with accounts payable and other subledger reconciliations as needed.
• Analyze accrued liabilities and ensure appropriate accruals are recorded and reversed timely.
• Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Research accounting issues and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Assist with the preparation of financial statements, management reporting, and other accounting analyses.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and requested documentation.
• Assist with SOX compliance, internal control activities, and documentation requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, reconciliations, and reporting efficiency.
• Collaborate with Finance, Accounts Payable, Treasury, Operations, and other cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues.
• Provide support on special projects and other accounting initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Approximately 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
• Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control principles.
• Experience with intercompany accounting and subledger-to-GL reconciliations preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict close deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with ERP and financial systems; SAP and BlackLine experience are a plus.
• CPA, MBA, or progress toward a professional accounting certification is a plus.
