Status: This is a full-time; hourly position
Hours: Monday - Thursday: 5am - 3:30pm & Friday: 5am - 10am; overtime as needed

JOB SUMMARY: The Color Match Technician I is responsible for coordinating with the appropriate departments to ensure the availability of granite stock to fulfill production tickets, which requires maintaining consistency and quality in color and finish to meet the aesthetic and artistic desires of the customer.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

  • Apply and sort production tickets for granite slabs according to stone quality and customer specifications.
  • Calculate and layout work segments to be cut from a granite block, yielding the maximum number of segments possible and fulfilling production ticket quantities.
  • Align similar granite blocks and edge conditions to maximize efficiencies in production and meet customer expectations.
  • Peen knots and markings in granite stones using a small peening stick.
  • Use dye to mark cracks in granite slabs while laying them to ensure maximum yield of the slab.
  • Maintain and catalog the color record log books and corresponding granite samples of each job's color specifications for future and/or replacement reference.
  • Understand and utilize the color flagging system to designate production status for granite slabs and stones (i.e. marked for current production, can be remarked or reused, can be inventoried for later use, etc.).
  • Use catalogued samples to layout proper stone segments to fill production tickets.
  • Provide instruction to the slabbing personnel on how to make the appropriate cuts in granite blocks to achieve the desired thickness per production tickets.
  • Manage the stone sample library.
  • Locate and coordinate approved samples for the Granite West plant.
  • Coordinate with the quarries to determine what the current and future yields of each quarry to meet stock and color inventory needs.
  • Create Demand tickets in Microsoft Access to notify quarries of stone need.
  • Scan granite slabs and blocks into the JDE system to inventory them for production availability or assignment.
  • Inspect incoming purchased granite stone and inventory it into the JDE system.
  • Use various chemical treatment processes to improve the color and appearance of granite to maximize yield of available stone.

Requirements

  • Must obtain forklift certification (training and certification provided by Coldspring for all employees who may be required to operate a forklift).
  • Must have good color perception and not be color blind or deficient.
  • Possess a sound understanding of all aspects of stone production; includes, but not limited to, face finishing, color and background identification, quality requirements to vary by product line, etc.
  • General knowledge of quarry capabilities (e.g. size, colors, inclusions, availabilities, etc.)
  • Ability to calculate material needs to meet job requirements and transfer them to the most efficient use of raw materials.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, to avoid interruptions in production.
  • Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis in time management, improving efficiencies and exercising independent judgment to determine work priority and urgency.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • General math skills.
  • Must be able to read work orders or production tickets, which may include dimensional drawings.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, imperial and metric.
  • Work as a self-motivated team member who adheres to all safety protocols and is willing to cross-train as needed.
