Description
The Director, Global Business Development - Energy, Oil & Gas defines and executes Aurorium's global Oil & Gas growth strategy, owns the segment's commercial growth plan and business development pipeline, and leads market positioning across upstream, midstream, downstream, and adjacent energy applications.

The Director provides enterprise-level leadership across Sales, Marketing, Innovation, Technical Service, Regulatory, Operations, and Supply Chain to drive profitable growth, optimize resources, and accelerate global execution within the Energy market portfolio. The role serves as Aurorium's senior commercial leader and external representative for the Oil & Gas segment, bringing deep market expertise, customer credibility, and disciplined business leadership.

The role translates corporate and business-unit strategy into segment objectives, annual operating plans, market activation priorities, investment recommendations, and measurable revenue, margin, and pipeline outcomes. The Director leads through direct reports, matrixed teams, and executive stakeholders to ensure consistent global execution and sustained commercial impact.

Role and Responsibilities
Global Segment Strategy & Market Leadership
  • Own the global Oil & Gas segment strategy, including market prioritization, portfolio direction, growth investments, and long-term strategic roadmaps.
  • Translate corporate and business-unit objectives into segment-level commercial strategies, annual operating priorities, and measurable growth plans.
  • Determine priority market segments, applications, customers, channels, and geographies based on market attractiveness, strategic fit, competitive position, and financial return, including upstream, midstream, downstream, emissions-reduction, water-management, and adjacent energy applications.
  • Establish the strategic direction for where Aurorium's chemistry, performance materials, and technical capabilities can create differentiated customer value.

Business Leadership & Financial Accountability
  • Accountable for achieving revenue, margin, pipeline, and profitable growth objectives for the global Oil & Gas market segment.
  • Own annual operating plans, strategic growth forecasts, investment priorities, segment budgets, and performance targets, recommending resource allocation decisions that maximize profitable growth and return on investment.
  • Lead business case development and investment recommendations for new markets, technologies, partnerships, channel strategies, and commercial initiatives.
  • Monitor performance against growth objectives and lead corrective actions to address gaps in sales, margin, pipeline development, project execution, or market penetration.
  • Provide regular executive-level reporting on segment performance, market dynamics, risks, growth opportunities, investment needs, and expected financial impact.

Market Activation, Pipeline Development & Growth Execution
  • Set global priorities and performance expectations for market activation plans, new product launches, recovery plans, and account-specific penetration strategies.
  • Establish global opportunity management standards, qualification criteria, stage-gate discipline, and conversion expectations, while owning the quality, value, and velocity of the Oil & Gas opportunity pipeline across strategic customers, distributors, service companies, operators, formulation partners, and technology partners.
  • Direct regional and functional teams to convert qualified opportunities into sustainable commercial revenue and margin growth.
  • Use customer insights, regulatory drivers, sustainability requirements, competitive intelligence, and market economics to identify and prioritize new business opportunities.
  • Approve strategic account and market penetration plans for priority global and regional customers.

Portfolio, Innovation & Technology Partnership Leadership
  • Determine strategic investment priorities for new product development, portfolio expansion, technology partnerships, and market-entry initiatives, partnering with Innovation, Technical Service, Regulatory, and Operations leaders to align priorities with customer problems, technical requirements, qualification pathways, market economics, operational feasibility, and financial return.
  • Lead commercial evaluation of new product concepts, portfolio extensions, application development opportunities, and external technology partnerships.
  • Provide market-back direction to ensure Aurorium's innovation agenda is aligned with customer needs, growth potential, regulatory expectations, operational feasibility, and financial return.
  • Shape enterprise portfolio decisions by providing market intelligence, competitive analysis, customer insights, and commercial due diligence.

Executive Leadership & Cross-Functional Governance
  • Partner directly with business unit, commercial, technical, operations, and executive leadership to establish long-term Oil & Gas growth priorities.
  • Lead cross-functional governance for the global Oil & Gas agenda, aligning Sales, Marketing, Innovation, Technical Service, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Operations, and regional leadership around priorities, customer engagement strategies, investment proposals, and resource deployment.
  • Resolve competing stakeholder priorities by applying business judgment, market insight, and financial discipline.
  • Present strategy, business cases, risks, performance results, and investment recommendations to senior leadership.

Strategic Account & External Relationship Leadership
  • Serve as Aurorium's senior representative within the global Oil & Gas industry, building senior-level relationships with key operators, service companies, distributors, formulation partners, technology partners, and strategic accounts through customer engagements, industry events, technical forums, and partner discussions.
  • Lead or support executive-level customer discussions, strategic negotiations, technical-commercial positioning, and complex opportunity shaping.
  • Strengthen customer intimacy, technical pull-through, commercial credibility, and long-term market positioning for Aurorium.
  • Represent customer and market priorities internally to influence portfolio, innovation, service, supply, and operational decisions.

Organizational Capability, Team Leadership & Sales Enablement
  • Lead and develop business development, market development, and/or commercial professionals aligned to the Oil & Gas growth agenda.
  • Establish capability requirements, performance expectations, talent development plans, and succession depth for the segment's commercial organization.
  • Provide strategic direction, coaching, tools, standards, value propositions, positioning, qualification criteria, and competitive-response materials to regional commercial teams, in partnership with Marketing and Technical Service, to improve opportunity identification, account planning, and deal conversion.
  • Elevate Aurorium's credibility with energy customers by building internal knowledge, commercial discipline, and technical-commercial fluency across the sales organization.

Compliance, Safety & Values
  • Ensure all commercial activities comply with applicable industry regulations, trade compliance requirements, quality standards, customer requirements, and Aurorium policies.
  • Actively support and model Aurorium's Health, Safety, Environmental, and Responsible Care commitments, recognizing the safety-critical nature of Oil & Gas operations.
  • Promote responsible, ethical, and sustainable growth consistent with customer expectations and Aurorium's standards.

Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical or commercial field required.
  • Advanced degree such as MBA, MSc, PhD, or equivalent commercial or technical experience strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of specialty chemicals, performance materials, technical B2B markets, and Oil & Gas value chains preferred.

Experience
  • 12+ years of progressive commercial, business development, product management, market leadership, or technical-commercial experience within Oil & Gas, energy, specialty chemicals, industrial fluids, process chemicals, or related markets.
  • Demonstrated success leading global or multi-regional growth strategies and delivering significant revenue, margin, pipeline, and market share expansion.
  • Experience managing teams, budgets, strategic investment decisions, and cross-functional business priorities.
  • Proven track record influencing senior executives, leading enterprise-wide initiatives, and aligning multiple functions and geographies around common growth objectives.
  • Experience leading market-entry strategies, product launches, customer penetration plans, recovery plans, and portfolio growth initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of Oil & Gas customer decision processes, procurement dynamics, qualification requirements, regulatory drivers, technical service expectations, and channel structures.
  • Experience building business cases, investment recommendations, long-range growth plans, and executive-level performance reviews.
