Position Overview
The Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). A unit of The University of Kansas (KU), KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages a $12 million annual budget, 65 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 15,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year.

Performs cleaning duties without leadership or training responsibilities. Performs hands-on cleaning but also helps ensure staff meet quality standards and assists in troubleshooting issues. Leads custodial projects and specialized floor care teams, ensuring proper execution. Maintains inventory, tracks equipment, and ensures proper storage of tools and chemicals. May assist supervisors in training workshops, work order reporting, and performance monitoring. High school diploma or GED and three years custodial work that involves hands on cleaning. One year of custodial work that involves floor care, to include scrubbing, stripping, and waxing hard surface floors.
The Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings including two multi-story residential student dormitories.

Job Description
25% - General Custodial Services

Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, classrooms, offices, common areas, fitness areas, entrances, elevators, and other assigned spaces. Duties include vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows and surfaces, emptying waste containers, replenishing supplies, disinfecting fixtures and equipment, and arranging furniture. Performs work according to established cleaning procedures, chemical instructions, and safety requirements.

20% - Work Coordination, Scheduling, and Shift Coverage

Prepares and maintains the custodial staff schedule to ensure adequate coverage of campus buildings and student housing. Adjust assignments based on campus needs, absences, room turnover, special events, and changing priorities. Fills in for custodial staff on other shifts as needed, including working flexible hours. Helps coordinate daily assignments, monitors work quality, assists staff with resolving cleaning issues, and communicates concerns to the Facilities Manager. May assist with training workshops, performance monitoring, and work-order reporting.

20% - Student Housing and Room Turnover

Cleans and prepares student rooms and living areas for new occupants. Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms, furniture, closets, cabinets, walls, windows, blinds, light fixtures, and floor surfaces. Makes beds with clean linens, replaces room supplies, checks for damaged or missing items, and arranges furniture according to the approved room layout. Helps coordinate and complete room turnovers during high-volume periods.

15% - Floor Care and Special Custodial Projects

Leads and performs specialized floor-care work and custodial projects. Operates floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, and other custodial equipment. Scrubs, strips, waxes, burnishes, and maintains hard-surface floors. Cleans carpets and upholstered furniture. Ensures projects are completed correctly, safely, and according to established standards.

10% - Supplies, Chemicals, and Equipment

Maintains custodial inventory and monitors the use of cleaning supplies, chemicals, tools, and equipment. Ensures custodial carts, storage rooms, and supply closets remain clean, organized, properly stocked, and secured. Tracks equipment and reports supply needs, damaged equipment, and repair needs to the Facilities Manager. Uses and stores chemicals according to manufacturer instructions and applicable safety requirements.

10% - Other Duties as Assigned

Position Requirements
  1. Ability to work flexible hours and fill other custodial shifts as needed.
  2. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds constantly and up to 50 pounds occasionally Experience managing multi-million-dollar capital budget;
  3. Must be able to work on ladders.
  4. Physical strength sufficient to stand the strain of working long hours at custodial tasks.
  5. Ability to work under a variety of extremes of temperature and weather, both inside and outdoors.
  6. Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed.
  7. Willingness and ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  8. Willingness and ability to report to work during declared periods of inclement weather.

Required Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Three years of custodial work that involves hands-on cleaning.
  3. One year of custodial work that involves floor care, to include scrubbing, stripping, and waxing hard-surface floors.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Custodial experience in large office or commercial buildings as evidenced by application materials
  2. Advanced training in custodial and high-volume cleaning operations as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Leadership experience and/or training as evidenced by application materials.
