Position Summary

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

This position is for a laboratory technician in the hydraulics testing and development center. The ideal candidate would be able to prioritize workload for a variety of tests, learn and apply ASTM/ISO/SAE and other standards, plus customer test requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ability to set up, operate, and monitor all laboratory test equipment while documenting all required testing data. Testing includes but is not limited to:

  • Manufacture, Measure, and Document Dimensions for Hydraulic Hose Assemblies

  • SAE J343 / ISO 18752 Burst, Proof, Leakage, Cold Flex, Vacuum, Oil Age, and Tensile static

    hydraulic hose assembly testing

  • SAE J343 / ISO 18752 Dynamic Impulse Testing

  • ASTM B117 Salt Spray testing

  • SAE and ISO Abrasion testing

  • D.O.T. Air brake Testing

  1. Work safely while maintaining a safe, clean work environment by controlling and cleaning up hydraulic oil spills, leaks, and disposing of old test samples.

  2. Maintain inventory of parts used in the test lab.

  3. Ability to use appropriate lab equipment to section, analyze, and measure both failures and assemblies.

  • Wet Saws, Measuring Tapes, Calipers, Micrometers, Microscopes, Comparator, or equivalent.

  1. Ability to collaborate with engineers on test methods and results.

  2. Ability to collaborate with engineers, maintenance, and designers to create test fixturing and or test equipment to meet unique test requirements that may arise.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide assistance within the department as required.

  2. Continue to keep current in skills through training, classes and on the job training as assigned by supervision

  3. Arrange scheduling of training with supervision.

  4. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment. Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately.

  5. Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.

  6. Other duties may be assigned later

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education required:

  1. High School diploma or GED.

  2. Apprenticeship or 2 year technical degree required

Experience:

  1. Mechanical skills similar to Millwright, machinery mechanic, and automotive technician.

  2. Read and understand technical documentation and specifications, such that one can generate or recreate test setups and or methods. Follow written instructions.

  3. Problem solves mechanical issues.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

1. Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment

  1. Basic computer skills, Windows proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

  2. Ability to analyze data using Excel

  3. Ability to learn new software skills relevant to various testing techniques and apparatuses.

Preferred Competencies:

1. Ability to monitor test equipment by sight or sound to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.

2. Vision: Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks.

3. Requires constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.

4. Skills similar to those of a Mechatronics Technician
