Position Description:

Interviews patients, guarantor or family member to obtain the necessary information required to register the patient presenting to the Hospital for treatment. Collects patient financial responsibility at time of service.

Job Duties/Responsibilities Requirements:

1 Acknowledge patients presenting to the Emergency Department or for Outpatient/In-patient services in a professional and courteous manner.

2. Interviews patient/representative to obtain all necessary information to complete the registration process by hospital policy.

3. Enters information into the computer accurately, using correct admission codes, demographics, and insurance information.

4. Present admission documents to patient/representative for signatures, clearly explaining the nature of each document.

5. Ensure that satisfactory financial arrangements are made in accordance with hospital policy. Collects appropriate ER co-payments and cash deposits.

6. Contacts HMO or carriers requiring authorization on a consistent basis and at the appropriate time during the registration process.

7. Faxes IP and Observation face sheets to assigned Medical Groups/IPS and Insurance companies.

8. Scans all necessary documents into system as needed.

9. Registration on computer on wheels and usage of the signature pads on all registrations.

10. Validation of Physician orders with the following information Doctor signature, Date of Service, Patient Name, Diagnosis/symptoms and procedure before processing any patient.

11. Works in all areas of Patient Access, maintains productivity levels established by the Admitting Manager or Designated Supervisor/Lead Staff, and keeps casual conversation to a minimum during working hours. Answers phones in a courteous and professional manner.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:

Experience:

Minimum of two years' experience in a hospital or related medical field. Must possess knowledge of office procedures, including good telephone skills, medical terminology, typing, insurance requirements and collection practices. Ability to be responsible for all emergency and outpatient registrations, obtaining information needed, with the ability to communicate information to patients, medical personnel, co-workers, insurance company representatives, medical groups and/or interested parties.

Education:

High School graduate or equivalent required.

Required Skills:

  • Written and verbal communications, interpersonal skills.
  • Basic organizational and computer skills.
