Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Department Description:

The UCSF Pediatric Perioperative Resource Team (PPRT) provides nursing coverage to the Pediatric Perioperative units at Mission Bay, Oakland, and Walnut Creek campuses. This is a float position, overseeing the care of patients within the 12 9 bed Mission Bay Operating Room, 12 Bed Level One Trauma Oakland Operating Room, and 3 Bed Walnut Creek Ambulatory Care Center. The Perioperative nurses are adaptable, taking on challenging assignments and providing staff coverage where they are needed the most. Our Perioperative Nurses are cross trained in caring for patients across all specialties and work closely with different interprofessional teams. Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years' of recent full-time inpatient Operating Room (OR) RN clinical experience

  • Proficiency in circulating general, laparoscopic, orthopedic, ENT, urology, and neurosurgical cases in a pediatric acute care setting.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills. Must be well organized and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and work independently and under pressure.

  • Basic computer keyboard skills and general PC knowledge.

  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • General Surgery, Ortho, Neuro, Level 1 trauma experience

  • Proficiency functioning as a scrub nurse

  • Specialty Certification - CNOR

  • BSN

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.

  • Current BLS certification from AHA provider
