Position Summary

Econolite is seeking a highly motivated District Sales Manager, Carolinas to lead business growth and customer engagement throughout the Carolinas region. Based in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, this individual will serve as the primary representative for Econolite within North Carolina and South Carolina, while also overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Charlotte office.

The District Sales Manager is responsible for driving territory sales performance, managing strategic customer relationships, identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, and expanding Econolite's market presence across the region. This role combines sales leadership, account management, office oversight, business development, and technical solution selling within the transportation and ITS industry.

The successful candidate will work closely with transportation agencies, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to develop project opportunities, support proposal development, manage key accounts, and ensure exceptional customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Develop and execute the district sales strategy to achieve growth objectives and revenue targets throughout North Carolina and South Carolina.
  • Serve as the primary representative for Econolite's ITS solutions, products, and services within the Carolinas.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with transportation agencies, municipalities, consultants, contractors, and industry stakeholders.
  • Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities while expanding existing customer relationships.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive activity, economic conditions, and customer needs to drive strategic business growth.
  • Manage key customer accounts, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and long-term partnership development.
  • Promote Econolite's portfolio of traffic management, connected vehicle, sensor, and transportation technology solutions.

Customer Engagement & Territory Management

  • Conduct regular in-person customer visits throughout the territory to strengthen relationships and support ongoing projects.
  • Maintain a strong field presence by traveling extensively throughout North Carolina and South Carolina.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive territory coverage plan to ensure consistent engagement with existing and prospective customers.
  • Utilize and maintain company CRM systems and territory management tools, including MapMyCustomers, to document activities, opportunities, customer interactions, and follow-up actions.
  • Provide timely and accurate updates regarding sales opportunities, customer feedback, and market intelligence.

Project Pursuit & Technical Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project pursuits within the district.
  • Assist with the formation of project teams and coordination of internal resources.
  • Review and analyze Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and other procurement opportunities.
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, project estimation, and solution positioning.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and product teams to ensure successful project delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide product management and market support for Connected Vehicle (CV) and related transportation technology solutions.

Office & Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Charlotte office.
  • Manage warehouse activities, inventory coordination, and regional operational processes.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with regional vendors and suppliers.
  • Manage purchase orders and administrative activities supporting district operations.
  • Ensure efficient office operations while supporting a positive and productive team environment.

Reporting & Leadership

  • Monitor sales performance and business development activities.
  • Provide weekly reports to the Regional Vice President summarizing:
    • Customer meetings and visits
    • Business development activities
    • Key account updates
    • Project opportunities and pipeline status
    • Upcoming travel and territory plans
  • Support and mentor team members while fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • Ensure alignment of district activities with Econolite's strategic vision and growth objectives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, account management, technical sales, traffic signal systems, transportation technology, or a related industry.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage customer relationships and drive business growth.
  • Strong understanding of consultative and solution-based selling practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency using CRM systems and sales management tools.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience within the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic, transportation, or infrastructure industries.
  • Knowledge of traffic signal systems, transportation technologies, and agency procurement processes.
  • Experience with Connected Vehicle (CV) technologies.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or certification.
  • Experience selling technical solutions to engineers, transportation professionals, and public-sector agencies.

Travel Requirements

  • 60% travel per week throughout North Carolina and South Carolina to support customer visits, business development, industry meetings, and project activities.
  • 40% office-based work in the Charlotte office managing operations, team support, reporting, and customer follow-up.
  • Territory travel is primarily vehicle-based and generally consists of approximately three days per week in the field and two days per week in the office.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT

COMPENSATION:

The base compensation range for this full-time exempt position is $95,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year plus, commission & benefits. Compensation ranges are determined by various factors, including role, experience, and location. The compensation range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within the range, actual individual compensation is determined by various factors, including location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
