Director of Education

The Director of Education, under the general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, coordinates and provides educational services to residential children and day school adolescents. Supervises the Education Department Personnel and maintains state mandated guidelines for Special Education and Alternative Education Approved school programs. The Director of Education attends treatment teams and serves as a liaison for education and/or clinical issues affecting the residents.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Ensures successful team approach for the operations of the school. Successfully implements the facility's Best in Class Academic Accountability System, School Improvement Plan and Outcomes Report
  • Creates a safe and secure learning environment, which fosters the academic and therapeutic growth of the students
  • Work with clinical team to ensure all needs of students are met
  • Recruits all teaching staff, provides appropriate supervision/professional development opportunities and completes annual written evaluations for all teachers. Ensures teachers are properly certified and highly qualified as per district guidelines
  • Continually assesses the quality of instruction through classroom visits, weekly faculty meetingsand review of student progress. Maintains school accreditation through Advanced Ed/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Develops and implements Individual Education Plan and Matrix Form for each student within prescribed timeframes. Both academic and behavioral objectives should be listed and monitored on a weekly basis
  • Prepare and implement sequential Math, Science, English and Social Studies Curriculum for all students based on the students past records and/or the Individual Education Plan (IEP) developed by the student's IEP Team
  • Maintains medical record documentation for each patient during his/her hospitalization
  • Maintains records of all educational testing and curriculum used, as well as school personnel records in full compliance with State Education Requirements, and La Amistad Policies and Procedures
  • Assists in the development and implementation of Behavior Management Programs with the program structure
  • Ensures district FTE/MIS reporting is accurate, works collaboratively with district staffing specialist and data clerk
  • Effectively communicates with parents, keeping them informed of their child's progress and assisting them with a smooth reintegration back to their child's traditional school
  • Partners with CEO and other Directors in creating a Culture of Service Excellence. Demonstrates understanding, commitment, and accountability for driving Service Excellence results through teams and individuals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Master's Degree in Education or related field
  • Years of experience needed:At least two (2) years' experience in specialty and two (2) years in a behavioral health facility preferred. Experience working with adolescents 13- 21. Visual acuity to supervise groups of students in the classroom and on campus
  • License/Certification: Must hold valid Florida ESE Teaching Certification
  • Skills: Demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, teaching and management skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Workinvolves considerable sitting, standing, walking, reaching with frequent lifting and carrying objects up to 25 pounds
