Registered Nurse (RN)-Outpatient Clinic Oncology-Full Time Days

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Responds to incoming calls requiring nursing assessment/triage, responding to emergent calls and/or written inquiries within 24 business hours and non-emergent within 48 business hours.
• Utilizes the Telephone Triage for Oncology Nurses (3rd edition) guidelines for assessment.
• Maintains triage nurse voicemail, checking voicemails every 4 hours during business hours.
• Refers verbal and/or written inquires to appropriate resources giving complete and accurate information.
• Assists in the coordination of direct patient care.
• Documents all inquiries at the time of the call for medical, legal and statistical purposes.
• Maintains confidentiality at all times with caller interactions.
• Performs direct patient care to support clinic operations as needed.
• Maintains a sense of ownership and accountability to the oncology clinic.
• Maintains the medication sample log for inventory purposes and notifies the supervisor of any discrepancies.
• Monitors and documents medication refrigerator temperature in the daily log.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program, associate's degree in nursing required.
• Valid RN License from Virginia or reciprocal compact state required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
• Experience telephone triage experience with multi-provider practice OR 1 year of oncology experience, required.
• 2+ years of oncology experience, Preferred.
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and team members.

Physical Requirements: Constant (67-100% of workday) walking, standing, use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include color determination; ability to work in confined spaces; ability to reach above/overhead.

Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
