A Brief Overview The Patient Transporter is responsible plays a key role in supporting safe, timely, and compassionate movement of patients throughout the hospital. This includes transporting patients between inpatient units, procedural areas, diagnostic services, and discharge locations. The role also supports the transport of essential nonpatient items and equipment.
Staff in this position serve as a welcoming and reassuring presence for patients and families, helping reduce anxiety and ensuring a positive experience during transitions of care. They demonstrate CHOP ICARE values, maintain a high level of service, and collaborate closely with clinical and operational teams to support hospital flow.
What you will do
- Patient Transport
- Safely transport patients of all ages using wheelchairs, stretchers, cribs, and specialty equipment.
- Assist with patient transfers under the direction of clinical staff.
- Escort discharged patients to designated pickup locations, including entrances and parking areas.
- Provide clear, supportive communication to patients and families during transport.
- Follow all infection prevention and equipmentcleaning protocols.
- NonPatient Transport & Support
- Transport nonpatient items and equipment as needed to support operational flow.
- Ensure timely delivery of equipment to support clinical flow.
- Maintain transport equipment in clean, safe working condition and report issues promptly.
- Operational Support
- Prioritize assignments to ensure timely movement of patients and materials.
- Collaborate with clinical teams, environmental services, security, and other departments to support safe patient flow.
- Crosscover as needed and perform other duties to support departmental operations.
- Leverage Epic system to communicate with clinical partners, track transportation tasks, and support patients.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED - Required
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year Experience in a customer service or patientfacing role - Preferred
- At least one (1) year Experience in a healthcare or transport setting - Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Able to serve as a champion of CHOP ICARE values (Required proficiency)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (Required proficiency)
- Ability to safely maneuver transport equipment and assist with patient mobility (Required proficiency)
- Ability to prioritize and complete duties in a timely and organized manner (Required proficiency)

- Ability to work with or without supervision (Required proficiency)
- Ability to learn new systems and engage in patient medical record system (Required proficiency)

$17.40 - $21.75 Hourly
