TYPE OF POSITION: Hourly Hours may vary based on program needs REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor SUPERVISION: None SALARY: $22.00/hr QUALIFICATIONS: Required * High School Diploma * Good driving history with ability to obtain a Class B Minnesota CDL with School Bus and Passenger Endorsements within 3 months Preferred * 1-3 years of general mechanical knowledge * Class B Minnesota CDL with School Bus and Passenger Endorsements * Bilingual POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs on the District's school bus, auto, and truck fleet. Responsibilities include oil changes, monthly mechanical and safety inspections, and assisting mechanics with repair work. This position works closely with shop staff to maintain safe and reliable transportation vehicles and may also drive school bus routes as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Perform Class A and B preventative maintenance inspections by checking fluid levels, electrical systems, tires, lubrication, and minor adjustments * Conduct road tests to ensure buses are in safe operating condition * Assist mechanics with major mechanical repairs and maintenance * Clean and perform minor repairs on buses and District vehicles inside and out * Drive District trucks or vans to pick up parts and complete assignments * Maintain shop safety and cleanliness by cleaning floors, organizing tools and parts, and maintaining work areas * Drive bus routes as directed by the Supervisor of Transportation or Transportation Coordinator * Other duties as assigned PHYSICAL FACTORS: Frequent walking, standing, sitting, hearing, talking, and seeing Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds BENEFITS: We offer a comprehensive benefits package for employees working a minimum of 30 hours per week*.
