What to Expect
Gigafactory Texas is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support site manufacturing. Come and join us to help accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and support startup, commissioning, and turnover of large industrial mechanical and chemical systems (chilled water, compressed air, boilers, HVAC, dust collection), owning performance from design review through installation, startup, and steady-state operations
  • Develop, review, and execute startup plans, commissioning procedures, pre-functional checklists, functional performance tests, and system turnover packages
  • Troubleshoot and resolve field mechanical issues across hydraulics, pneumatics, thermal systems, rotating equipment, ducting/piping, and associated utilities
  • Partner with controls, electrical, facilities operations, construction, and vendors to meet operational, safety, and reliability requirements
  • Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for performance, reliability, and capacity issues; optimize systems for reliability, energy efficiency, capacity, and maintainability, and execute improvement projects
  • Review engineering designs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, submittals, and sequences of operation for large utility and process-support systems
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including operating procedures, one-line/P&ID redlines, commissioning records, and as-builts
  • Support safe work practices during construction, startup, and operations (LOTO, tryout, energized work coordination, and management of change)
  • Provide initial technical system training for operations and maintenance teams, and technical leadership during major outages, tie-ins, and capacity expansion projects
  • Perform hands-on work in varied environments (heat, cold, rain, tight quarters); work extended hours and weekends as needed; lift up to 25 lbs unassisted

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • 8-10 years of direct experience with large industrial mechanical or chemical systems in high-volume manufacturing or industrial environments (semiconductor, battery, automotive, chemical, solar, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience starting up and commissioning large utility/process systems such as Chilled Water, Compressed Air, Boilers/Steam, HVAC, and Dust Collection
  • Strong understanding of rotating equipment, heat exchangers, pumps, cooling towers, air compressors, boilers, AHUs, filtration/dust collection, piping systems, and associated instrumentation
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment specs, sequences of operation, and controls narratives
  • Experience collaborating across mechanical, controls, electrical, and operations disciplines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and deliver in a high-tempo construction/startup or operating environment
  • Working knowledge of system balancing, performance testing, and basic controls strategies (PID loops, sequences, interlocks) is a plus
  • Familiarity with VFDs, common industrial sensors (pressure, temperature, flow, level), and utility metering is a plus
  • Experience with energy-efficiency improvements and reliability/uptime initiatives preferred
