Position Summary: The Director of Finance and Accounting - Vice President provides strategic leadership and oversight of all accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, and internal control activities of Union Bank & Trust and its subsidiaries. This senior management role ensures compliance with GAAP, regulatory reporting requirements, FDICIA internal control standards, and applicable banking regulations while supporting the Bank's growth strategies and objectives.

The Director of Finance and Accounting - VP serves as a key advisor to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the President and CEO, the Audit and Risk Committee, external auditors, and regulators regarding accounting matters, financial reporting, internal controls, and emerging accounting standards.

Essential Functions:



  • Lead all corporate accounting and financial reporting and income tax activities including overall accounting responsibility over loans, CECL, deposits, investments, derivatives, leases, mergers and acquisitions, and other complex banking transactions.
  • In partnership with the CFO, develop and execute strategies related to financial reporting, capital planning, growth initiatives, liquidity management, and operational risk.
  • Analyze information relating to acquisitions, expansion, funding sources, new products or services or other opportunities and formulate strategic recommendations to present to the CFO and President and CEO.
  • Monitor emerging accounting, tax, and regulatory developments and assess impacts on financial operations, risk management, strategic initiatives, and corporate transactions.
  • Partner with the CFO on capital planning, profitability analysis, and Board reporting.
  • Active participation in the asset and liability management function and strategies
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, regulatory reports and reports for senior management and the Board.
  • Complete ad hoc projects for CFO and Senior Management.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships across the organization to support operational effectiveness, strategic alignment, and sound financial decision-making.
  • Partner with CFO in management of external audit, tax and regulatory engagements and along with VP - Controller, serve as a primary contact with the service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state banking regulations and laws.
  • Participate in the management of the annual preparation and analysis of the Bank's operating budget and present results to Executive Management.
  • Responsible for ongoing strategic planning for the accounting function and team succession planning.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Champion the implementation and effective utilization of technology solutions, automation, artificial intelligence, and data analytics capabilities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making.
  • Monitor and document affiliate transactions along with summarizing activity for the Board, Reg W and FRY-8 reporting
  • Participate as a member in various Bank committees including Enterprise Risk Management Committee, Derivatives Committee, ALCO Committee, Investment Committee and Bank Management Committee.
  • Understand and adhere to all Bank policies, laws and regulations applicable to their role. Complete compliance training. Follow internal processes and controls as required.
  • Report all compliance issues, violations of law or regulations in accordance with the steps defined in Bank policies.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required.
  • Good standing and active CPA certification required.
  • Minimum ten years' experience in public and/or private accounting, including involvement in both audit function and federal and state corporate income taxation.
  • Significant banking or financial services experience required.
  • Experience with mergers/acquisitions, complex accounting issues, and regulatory reporting strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing accounting or finance teams.
  • Valid Nebraska driver's license.

Working Environment:



  • Indoor work - not exposure to outdoor elements or hazards.
